MESHUGGAH: Immutable - The Indelible Edition (reissue)
Reigning Phoenix Music on April 4 - LP, CD, Digital
"Immutable" was originally released in 2022, and seems to have been a huge success for this Swedish progressive metal veterans. Now they give us "The Indelible Edition" of the album, which also features 3 live tracks as a bonus. It's said that this new edition redefines the album's depth and clarity.
This is hardly any easy-listening music. But I guess most of you already knew that. It's technical and progressive, as well as stone hard and really heavy. Both brutal and adventurous you could say. Everything is done very professionally. It's tight and dynamic. To my surprise it's actually not so bad, but both the band and I have obviously grown since I heard them last time (which is an eternity ago). Now everything here might not be my piece of cake, but most of these tracks are listenable anyway. But this is hardly something that everybody will enjoy.
The journey for this band began in Umeå in 1987, where they created their own unique sound. Their first release, "Contradictions Collapse", came out in 1991. Through the years they have established themselves as heavyweights in the harder and more experimental school of metal. "Immutable" is their 9th album.

UNBOUND TERROR: Something Is Rotten In Humanity
Xtreem Music on April 1 - CD, LP, Cassette, Digital
This band seems to be pioneers and legends of the Spanish death metal scene. They are from Mallorca, and formed in 1991. In late 1992 they released their debut album, "Nest Of Affliction", which was most likely the first death metal album in Spain. Already at this time they performed a very personal and unique form of death metal, which made them stand out from the rest. But in 1993 it was over, due to internal issues and musical disagreements. Founder Vicente J. Payá then formed another pioneering band, death/doom metallers GOLGOTHA. In 2020 Vicente decided to re-launch the band with some new members, and 2 more albums has been released since then.
Now another album is here, and this is a brutal experience. Yet it sounds very professional as well. And they still have their own sound somehow, because they doesn't really sound like all the classic bands. But they succeed to be just as good as those old bands, so they are obviously doing something right here.

TYRANNOSATAN: Babylons Skräck
Jawbreaker Records on April 2 - Cassette, Digital EP
TYRANNOSATAN gives us a raw dose of black/thrash metal brutality. These 4 tracks are built on aggression, chaos, and an untamed energy, with influences from old-school death, doom, speed and heavy metal. You could say that this is metal in its purest form, like it sounded back in the 80s.
"Babylons Skräck" is said to pick up where their debut album, "Katakombernas Kakofoni", left off. It's fast and intense, and hardly something for people with a weak heart. But those who are strong enough should give these guys a try, because it's not bad at all.
TYRANNOSATAN is a trio from Sweden.

DECORATE. DECORATE.: A Sun
Target Records - Digital Single
This is an alternative rock band from Denmark. In 2007 they took the Danish rock scene by storm with razor-sharp, symphonic soundscapes and electrifying live performances. 3 years later it was over. But after more than a decade apart, the original lineup has now reunited, and "A Sun" is the first single that we get.
This sounds like a bittersweat and cold post-punk song from the late 70s/early 80s, with a singer that reminds me of David Bowie around the same time. Not bad at all. I really like this song. So if they have more of this, then I'm really interested. Enjoy the darkness.

CHAMBER MAGE: By The Light Of Emerald Gods
Nameless Grave Records - LP, CD, Digital
Here's another heavy metal band in the old tradition. And they are just as good as any other band in this genre, even if they don't really have anything extra good to come up with. But on the other hand, you don't always have to be so special. Good is sometimes enough, and this is absolutely good and worth checking out.
CHAMBER MAGE comes from Colorado, and formed in the spring of 2021. Inspiration comes from European power metal, NWOBHM and American power metal.
These guys are obviously experienced, because it sounds very professional. It's said to fit fans of acts like NOCTURNAL RITES, VISIGOTH, JAG PANZER, ARMORED SAINT, SLOUGH FEG, CIRITH UNGOL and MANILLA ROAD.

BLANK: Coco Bongo
Blank - Digital Single
BLANK are said to deliver an unfiltered blast of hardcore/beatdown mayhem packed with groove-heavy riffs, ruthless breakdowns, and raw aggression. And that might sound cool, but unfortunately it's not so funny to listen to. It's said that this band doesn't play by the rules, but just do what ever they want to do and blend different genres as they want to. And maybe that's where the problem is? But I'm actually not really sure.. It could also be as simple as that it's not such a good song.
The group hailing from Drummondville, Quebec, and formed in 2022. They will release an album in the summer, but this song will not be on that album (it's a standalone single).

GALGEBERG: Cerberus
Our Ancient Future - MLP, MCD, Cassette, Digital
GALGEBERG translates to Gallows Hill, an intersection in Oslo, Norway known historically as the site where gallows once stood, casting long shadows over the city. This 3-piece death metal punks thought it was a perfect name for the band, which features some seasoned musicians, that might be recognized from their stints in various influential bands. But now we are going to talk about GALGEBERG, so forget the past for a while.
Why they call this a debut album is a good question, because it's not more than 6 tracks here, and none of them is extra long. So I would say that this is a EP or possibly a mini album.
This recording was done in 16 hours, and "Cerberus" is the ferocious 3-headed dog of Hades. What we get here is a raw and unfiltered mix of old school death metal and punk. The energy is really high, and the Stockholm sound is there as well, but they also add their own twist somehow.
I like these songs and I think many others will like this too, so you should really give this a try.

MOLOSSER CRUDE: In The Details
Evil Ear on March 31 - Digital Single
In contrast to the bluesy stoner sound that's been colouring their previous singles, this is a bit snappier, a bit faster, and a bit shorter. More like what they call new wave or something similar to that, but yet not really that either. Still it sounds like MOLOSSER CRUDE though, but it's not one of their better songs. It&39;s dark and heavy, yet full of energy as well. A bit weird for being this band, and not as cool as some of their earlier stuff.
This is the third single of 4 from their upcoming debut album, which will be released in May.

MAMALARKY: Anhedonia
Epitaph Records - Digital Single
Indie rock quartet MAMALARKY has released another single, and it's said to be about feeling god awful. It's not so energetic, but rather more like a soft feel-good pop song, or however I should describe this little song? Pretty good anyway, so I guess it could be worth a try. But as I don't really know how to describe this, I don't have much else to say.
The band will release a new album, "Hex Key", on April 11. And that's where this song comes from.

KRYPTOPORTIKUS: Imperial Machine
Fastball Music - Digital Single
There's as much as 30 years between the 2 members of German band KRYPTOPORTIKUS, which is a collaboration between Chris Techritz (SCATTERFACE, ex-=FUDGE= KERJER) and Franz Herde (SIEGES EVEN). They met in 2015 and began to work under the name CARRIER. But when they decided to record an album, they changed the name to KRYPTOPORTIKUS.
Musically they come together in old school thrash metal, and their debut album, "Dark Rainbow", was released on March 21. This song on the other hand sounds more like something with JUDAS PRIEST than thrash metal. Pretty o.k., but honestly not much else than that, and soon forgotten.

SMOKE MOUNTAIN: The Rider
Argonauta Records on March 28 - CD, LP
SMOKE MOUNTAIN is a doom trio hailing from Tallahassee, Florida, formed in 2015. They released a self-titled EP in 2017, and their first full-length album, "Queen Of Sin" in 2020.
With "The Rider" they continue to deliver haunting melodies, crushing riffs and atmospheric depth, while also exploring new sonic territories. They blend their doom with occult themes, and what we get is the 3 songs from the debut EP and 5 new songs.
This is heavy and powerful. The vocals is clean and very good. These 8 tracks are absolutely not bad at all. And I would say that it's not just doom here. A song like "The Way To Heaven" sounds almost like a demo recording by NIRVANA. But that works very good too.

SCULFORGE: Cosmic Crusade Chronicles
MDD Records - CD, Digital
Following a lineup change and relocation, SCULFORGE have crafted a concept album that expands the story of their 2023 debut, "Intergalactic Battle Tunes". On this second album, the Germans are taking their sound to the next level. They deliver a cocktail of blistering guitar solos, soaring vocals and a relentless energy. It's high-speed power metal with heart and soul, and it all sounds very professional. The songs are great, so you should really give this album a chance, becuase it would be very stupid to miss something as good as this.
Not much else to add there..

MIDNIGHT VICE: Midnight Vice
ROAR on March 28 (EU), April 4 (North America) - MCD, MLP
This is the debut EP from this Tampa, Florida-based heavy metal band, which was released digitally in 2023. But now it will also be released in physical form on both CD and vinyl. The band formed in 2020, and they are yet another band who is part of what is called "The New Wave Of Traditional Heavy Metal".
With a sound that pays homage to the legends of the 1980s metal era, they combine crushing riffs, soaring vocals, and blazing guitar solos to create a sound that is both familiar and fresh. Traditional but yet modern you could say. These 7 tracks are really good, and a must to check out for those who love heavy metal from the 80s. It's not more complicated than that.

The DARKNESS: Dreams On Toast
Cooking Vinyl on March 28 - CD, LP, Cassette, Digital
Back in 2003, British glam rockers The DARKNESS released their debut album, "Permission To Land", and became famous all over the world. The album included hit singles like "I Believe In A Thing Called Love" and "Get Your Hands Off My Woman". But the pressures of fame took its toll, and in 2006 frontman Justin Hawkins left the band, checking into rehab, and The DARKNESS was over (for a few years at least).
The band reformed in 2011, and have been active ever since. They might not have got any new big hits, but seems to very popular anyway. And I get a feeling that they are on their way back to the top.
On this latest album, The DARKNESS seems to blend old glam rock from the 70s with elements of QUEEN and lots of other stuff. And what we get is a very varied album with many different songs. Sometimes it's uptempo rockers, sometimes more soft. We get 70s pop, glam punk rock, hard rock, a 60s pop ballad and country. Everything might not be so interesting, but somehow they get away with it, and this album is absolutely not bad at all.

CROSSON: Bound For Glory
Wormholedeath Records - Digital Single
Australian theatrical glam rockers CROSSON have released the second single from their upcoming 7th studio album, "Guilty Of Rock", which will be released on June 15. They deliver a catchy and uplifting song this time, and it sounds good and as it use to when it comes to this band.
Renowned for crafting songs that motivate individuals to chase their dreams and endure challenging moments, "Bound For Glory" carries on this inspiring legacy. It might in other words give you some hope, if only for 5 minutes.
A fun fact is that "Bound For Glory" was also submitted and under consideration for the Greek national finals to represent Greece in Eurovision 2025 due to the band's dual Australian/Greek citizenship. I think it could have been a succees.

MIDST OF WAR: Curtain Call
Curtain Call Records - Digital Single
MIDST OF WAR is an American hard rock/groove metal band based out of Billings, Montana. The band was formed as a project in 2021, but became an official act in late 2022, when the band's lineup was complete. Their first full-length album, titled "Wrapped in Chains", was released on November 1, 2024. The band's sound is a mixture of dueling lead-guitar harmonies, powerful and precise drumming, heavy funk-rock driven bass tones, and aggressive vocals. And with influences from metal, hard rock, punk, grunge, and alternative, the band has honed their own unique sound.
Well, I would not say that this is the next big thing, as their unique sound is a little too unique to be interesting. But that's just what I think. At the same time I would guess that fans of alternative metal from the 90s and early 2000s could like this.

SAGOSTUND: Leva I En Fantasi
Icons Creating Evil Art - LP, Digital
This northern Swedish ensamble succeed to create something that sounds like it would have been made in the Swedish 60s/70s, and something that fits both adults and children. The music is a fusion of progg and progressive rock with elements of jazz. The lyrical theme is mainly a longing away from the adult world. You'd rather be a child instead. It's almost like the soundtrack to a Swedish TV show for children in the 70s.
Most of you will probably think that this is crap, but I actually like this. They are very good at what they are doing, and seems to do it with passion. And if you miss the 70s or wish that you would have been there, then this is exactly what you need. But of course it also works perfectly as an everyday escape from all the misery in the world. Because who really wants to be an adult and live with a lot of obligations that you would rather not have to do anyway?
All songs are in Swedish.

REAL SICKIES: Under A Plastic Bag
Stomp Records - LP, Digital
This Canadian band reminds me of late 70s bands like The JAM, The UNDERTONES and BUZZCOCKS. So if you like that, then I can really recomend you to check out this band, because this album is really good.
This Edmonton-based group seamlessly blends elements of indie, punk and new-wave. It's melodic, catchy and energetic. The kind of stuff that you just can't say no to, unless you're stonehard and cold (but then you're probably dead already). I guess we can call it pop punk, power pop and simply melodic punk rock. And as you probably have figured out already, it has a nostalgic feeling. But I think both old and new punk rockers can like this.
Fun fact: REAL SICKIES is Billie Joe Armstrong's (GREEN DAY) favorite Canadian punk band. And fans of his band, as well as RAMONES and TEENAGE BOTTLEROCKET, should check this out.

MARTYR: Once Upon A Tale
Roxx Records on March 28 - LP, CD
MARTYR is something as unusual as a Christian thrash metal band, and this is a compilation where we also get with 2 brand new tracks.
This band entered the thrash/punk crossover scene in the mid-80s, and hailing from Van Nuys, California. They released some demo tapes between 1986-89 before it was over. There would be a few attempts to revive the band throughout the years, and ultimately in 1993 that led to the compilation album "Wickenstraut" available on CD only. Then nothing happened until 2001, when an extremely limited-edition split CD, "The Passing Of Time", with BETRAYAL was released. And a funny thing is that BETRAYAL is the remnants of MARTYR, so you could almost say that they did a split with themselves, haha.
"Once Upon A Tale" consist of 10 tracks from every release the band made, and ending with 2 previously unreleased tracks from 1995. It sounds as most other thrash bands from the 80s, but they are doing it just as good as those other bands, so there's nothing to complain about. Very skilled musicians. If you're a fan of obscure thrash bands, then this is absolutely worth buying.
And you don't have to worry because they are Christian, because as far as I can get there's no songs about that subject. Or does titles like "War Circus", "Plead The Blood" and "American Holocaust" sound Christian to you? Well, there's no STRYPER lyrics about how great God and Jesus are anyway.

SEVERED ANGEL: When Eternity Ends
NoLifeTilMetal Records on March 28 - CD, Digital
This is the third album from this melodic and progressive heavy metal band. The band hailing from the Northeastern United States (New York and Pennsylvania), and in late 2024 they signed to NoLifeTilMetal Records.
This is not a band who wants to repeat themselves, so they have once again developed their sound since the last album. And even though I reviewed that album, "Skyward" (2024), this doesn't sound familiar to me. It sounds o.k. though, a pretty modern sound, even if there's some old parts too. But a small problem is that they don't have anything that's extra good here, that I actually can remember afterwards.

SERPENT RIDER: The Ichor Of Chimaera
No Remorse Records on March 28 - CD, LP
This American band was originally formed as SKYWAY CORSAIR in 2015, but changed the name to SEPRENT RIDER in 2017, and they were then based in Los Angeles. After 2 years they released a demo and got signed to No Remorse Records, and a split 12" with Canadian heavy metal band EZRA BROOKS was released in 2021. And after that they had to change the lineup and moved to Seattle.
So, after 10 years they finally deliver their debut album, which is a blend of the myriad of influences that they have. Some are obvious, like MANILLA ROAD, WARLORD, BLACK SABBATH and CANDLEMASS. But there's also heavy influence from the Greek black metal scene (particularly VARATHRON, AGATUS and ROTTING CHRIST) and 1970s rock a'la WISHBONE ASH and SCORPIONS.
It mainly sounds old school and I would describe their music as heavy/doom metal, or somewhere between those 2 as they are heavy but yet too fast to be pure doom. The songs are not bad at all. But the drums sounds a little strange somehow, don't really know how to explain it though. Otherwise not much to complain about here.
Best song here could be "Matri Deorum" (which the YouTube link below will lead you to).

VIGILHUNTER: Vigilhunter
High Roller Records on March 28 - CD, LP, Cassette, Digital
Alexx Panza was the singer on HITTEN's latest studio album, "While Passion Lasts" (2023), as well as on "Souls Of The Innocent" (2022) by Jack Starr's BURNING STARR. But his newest venture is called VIGILHUNTER, and this is their debut album.
The band was first active a few years ago, but was put on ice. But now they decided that it was time to do something with the songs, and the result is this full-length album with 9 tracks of classic U.S. heavy/power metal. Among the influences are bands like QUEENSRŸCHE, CRIMSON GLORY, FATES WARNING, SAVATAGE and VICIOUS RUMORS. We talk high quality songs here with progressive elements, and everything is very professionally done. They have already such a fully developed sound that I think they are already ready to play with the big boys. So this is something that you would not want to miss.

WASTED: 5
Wasted on March 28 - LP, CD, Digital
WASTED is a old school heavy metal band from Denmark, established in 1981 as RADON81. In 1983 they changed the name to WASTED after a song with DEF LEPPARD (which they are doing a cover of on this album). They released a few demo tapes and 2 full-length albums before they went seperate ways in 1987.
In 2013 they reunited with 4 out of 5 original members to play at Metal Magic Fredericia Festival. And since then they have released 2 more albums.
As the title says, this is their fifth album. They deliver with power and energy, and it sounds very old school and raw. The lyrics consist of horror stories and tales from the dark side.
Well, this band really deliver, and it sounds good and reminds me of some other band (which I can't remember the name of). It's hard and heavy, just like it should be. You should check this out.

BLENDED BREW: Roll The Dice
Mighty Music on March 28 - Digital Album
These songs never made it to the debut album, "Hand Patrones", which was released a decade ago. But they have now been newly re-arranged and recorded, as they held a special spark that this Danish rock band could never quite put down. These songs have simply been waiting for the right moment, which is now in the year 2025. Why the album is only released digitally is a good question though, because these songs deserves both a vinyl and CD release (but maybe in the future?).
These 9 tracks are said to be a mix of hard rock, classic rock and some blues influences. And we can find many great moments here, like the opening track "Roll The Dice" as 1 example of brilliance. Another sweet piece is "Grateful Moment". And well, nothing is bad anyway. But yes, you could always have opinions about too many soft songs here, but those songs are actually good too. So I would say that this is mainly a classic rock album, because I can't hear much hard rock here anyway.

ON MY COMMAND: Conquer
On My Command on March 28 - CD, LP, Digital
Australian heavy metal band ON MY COMMAND release their third album. And it's said to continue where their last album, "Prey" (2021), left off. These 9 tracks are full of raw metal energy, and combines traditional metal with doses of early thrash and power metal. It's powerful, melodic and heavy, just like a good metal album should be. And the vocals actually makes me think of Dee Snider (TWISTED SISTER), even if it's not exactly like him, but this singer seems to have the same power and a similar voice at least.
ON MY COMMAND is part of what they call "The New Wave Of Traditional Heavy Metal", and they show us all that Australia also know how to do this. Because this is a really good album, and you should absolutely give it a try.

DOOMSDAY is a crossover outfit from Oakland, California, formed in 2018. The members comes from different parts of the Bay Area metal and hardcore scene, and they have previously released several EPs and singles, as well as a couple of EPs.
"Never Known Peace" is their full-length debut, where they deliver a crushing mix of thrash metal and hardcore (aka crossover) that can make you think that we are back in 1986. It's intense and full of energy, and these guys are very good at what they are doing here. It's tight and well performed, and the songs are really good. So this is something that you should check out of course.

SACRED SEASON: Sacred Season (reissue) / No Man's Land (reissue)
Pride & Joy Music Classixx - CD / CD
SACRED SEASON is a melodic rock band from Raisdorf near Kiel, Germany. They have released 2 albums, "Sacred Season" (1994) and "No Man's Land" (1998). These 2 are hard to find nowadays, but have now been re-released in a limited edition of just 500 copies each. "No Man's Land" comes with 2 bonus tracks, written in 2004 and 2017. The band has also released 2 demos and a EP.
What we get here is a mix of up-tempo rockers and softer songs. Sometimes there's unfortunately a little too much of those softer songs according to me, and it's often so sugar sweet that even people who like pop could like this. But if you like that, then this could absolutely be worth buying, becuase they have some good songs here too, like "I Won't Forget", "Wings Of Love" and "Take Me Home" from the debut, and "Voices" from "No Man's Land".
The band have not always been active through the years, but have done a show once in a while. And they were about to enter the studio in December 2024 to record a new track (if they did is unknown to me), so the story is not over yet.

RYLOS: Signs Of Life
Inverse Records - CD, Digital
Finnish hard rockers RYLOS has released their fifth album, which sounds darker and heavier, but without losing their signature sound. Every song is not dark and heavy though, there's also more catchy and energetic pieces here, so it's a good balance between hard rock and doom metal you could say. And that also means that there's songs for both hard rockers and heavy metal fans (but it's not unusual that you like both anyway).
We get 10 tracks here, and it's without a doubt a good album that they have made.

Robin McAuley: Soulbound
Frontiers Music Srl - CD, LP, Digital
Irish rock singer Robin McAuley (MSG, BLACK SWAN, SURVIVOR, GRAND PRIX) released a new solo album a few weeks ago. This album is said to be more guitar driven and straight hard rock compared to his previous albums. He have been active in the music business for many years now, but he still have a powerful voice, and luckily he also have some good songs. Proof of that is this album, which gives us a heavy and melodic material that sounds familiar somehow. Sometimes it's also catchy.

This is the 4th album from Swedish melodic rock band PERFECT PLAN. It sometimes makes me think of bands like EUROPE and WHITESNAKE, which are among their influences. And yes, the sound is rooted in the 80s as with so many other bands in this genre, but they give us a varied album with up-tempo songs, heavier tracks etc. And no matter what they do, it sounds really good. German hardcore band FOREIGN has since 2018 delivered fast and aggressive riffs, crushing breakdowns, and an uncompromising message. Their music is loud, raw and direct with a clear stance against fascism and social injustice. It's hard and heavy, simply pure hardcore as we all know it. So there's no surprises here, but it sounds just like it should, so there's really no reason to complain.

DEFENDER: Dying To Live

Here's yet another band that are part of "the new wave of traditional heavy metal" movement. This German band was founded in Balingen in 2016, but it's not until now that their debut album will be released (they released a EP, "Rising High", in 2018 though).
Musically they are somewhere between Teutonic metal from 1986 and old speed and heavy metal from Hamburg. What you can expect is in other words classic ingredients like razor-sharp riffs, fast double guitar solos, energetic drums and catchy melodies. Simply true heavy metal for young and old.
This sounds really good and their songs are of a high quality, so you should of course give them a try.

CLAN DOS MORTOS CICATRIZ: Téchnicas de Morte
Sentient Ruin on March 21 - LP, Cassette, Digital
These 15 songs are short (53 seconds to approximately 2 minutes) and intense, and the energy is really high. But then we are talking about raw death/punk (as they call it), which sounds a lot like hardcore/punk or crust punk to me.
CLAN DOS MORTOS CICATRIZ comes from Brazil, and this is their debut album, which doesn't even last for half an hour. So is it really a full-length then?
Anyway, they seems to blend dark punk, hardcore and crust with death rock and black metal. It's mainly full speed ahead and loud vocals with a little too much reverb for my taste. They are really good at what they are doing, and the songs are not that bad at all. Worth listening to.

AMAMMOTH: Distant Skies And The Ocean Flies
Electric Valley Records on March 21 - LP, Digital
AMAMMOTH are said to be Sydney's sludgiest stoner outfit. First they begin with a intro that last for almost 3 minutes, and then a song that last for 9 minutes on that, where it takes 4 minutes before there's any vocals. And even if the other tracks here are of a shorter length - 3-5 minutes - they are just as heavy and monotonous as the first tracks. And when there's vocals, it's more like harsh shouting than singing. It' raw and filthy stuff, with influences from bands like EYEHATEGOD, ELECTRIC WIZARD, The MELVINS, BLACK SABBATH etc.
This band originally emerged in 2016 with a demo called "Inhale". A first EP, "Blackwitch", was released in 2019, and followed by their full-length debut, "The Fire Above", in 2021. "Distant Skies And The Ocean Flies" is their second full-length album.

TOWER: Let There Be Dark
Cruz Del Sur Music on March 21 in Europe/April 11 in USA - CD, LP, Digital
New York City's TOWER are said to return with their darkest and heaviest offering to date. But I would rather say that it's a powerful and epic heavy metal album that they have made. And it's actually not so heavy according to me, because the tempo is mainly high, but there's a dark atmosphere over these songs somehow. They have many really strong songs here, no doubt about that, so this is simply a fantastic album, and you should really check it out if you like traditional heavy metal with energy.
This band doesn't need any long adventures, but are satisfied with songs that are around 4 to 5 and a half minutes. "Let There Be Dark" is the band's third album. While their previous efforts had a rock n roll edge, this album stands on its own as a pure metal album. And since the last album they have been re-joined by original bassist Philippe Arman in 2022 and found a new drummer: Keith Mikus.

SUPERSONIC DEUCES: Deuce On The Loose
Screaming Crow Records on March 21 - CD, LP, Digital
This Italian band features members from bands like STORMLORD, ENEMYSIDE, STICK IT OUT and SKULLDAZE. They are influenced by icons like The STOOGES, MC5 and NEW YORK DOLLS, but also more modern acts from Scandinavia, like BACKYARD BABIES, The HELLACOPTERS and TURBONEGRO. "Deuce On The Loose" is their debut album.
And yes, this makes me think of the days when "Total 13" by BACKYARD BABIES and "Payin' The Deus" by The HELLACOPTERS was among the hottest albums in my world. And these guys are carrying on the legacy with pride. Because this is just as good as any of the classic albums that I like so much. So this is a must for fans of action rock. Without a doubt!
SUPERSONIC DEUCES deliver a very energetic kind of garage rock/rock n roll that will make you sweat. The variety may not always be that huge, but it is made up for by boundless enthusiasm.

Roger Karlsson: Blues Från Sunny Hill
Beat Butchers on March 22 - LP, CD, CD/LP - out now Digital
This is not what I usually accept for review here, but for being singer/songwriter in the Swedish tradtion, it's actually really good. Many of the songs depicts growing up in a typical Swedish home in the 70s/80s, while others is about a world in crisis and transformation. And this is not just a guy sitting there singing with an acoustic guitar, but actually a whole band, which makes it more alive and interesting to listen to. This simply works for me, and that's it.
This is Roger's 9th solo album. He has a past in bands like INFERNO and TUK TUK RALLY, if those names are familiar?

PROPAGANDHI: At Peace
Epitaph Records - Digital Single
PROPAGANDHI have been active as a political and anti-fascist band since 1986. Following an 8-year hiatus, these Canadian skate punks are back. They will release their 8th studio album, "At Peace", on May 2, and the title track has been released as the first single from the record.
This song begins pretty soft and slow, but don't let that scare you away, because they soon go back to their familiar sound, which is a melodic kind of punk rock, but hardly slow. Well, this is more or less familiar anyway, as it sounds a bit laid-back and thoughtful somehow, yet very energetic as well. It's a good song and sounds promising for the new album. So if you like what they call skate punk from 90s, then you should check this out.
This is how I remember the old stuff from Epitaph, the stuff that they released in the 90s and early 2000s. Nowadays it's too much modern stuff for my taste.

BREAKER: Breaker
Wormholedeath Records - Digital Single
This sounds really interesting. Good old speed/heavy metal in the same tradition as 70s/80s JUDAS PRIEST is what we get from this band, and that can hardly ever go wrong. This makes me hungry for more. And more will we get soon as they will release a self-titled EP on April 4. This song is taken from that EP.
If you need something new to bang your head to, then check out this song. I'm pretty sure that it will make you hungry for that upcoming record.
BREAKER is a pretty new band, formed in 2023, and the EP will be their first.

DEFILED SERENITY: Within The Slumber Of The Mind
Inverse Records - CD, LP, Digital
Finnish melodic death metallers DEFILED SERENITY have released their debut album. The band formed in 2021 and released their first single in 2022.
The intro wasn't that funny to listen to - A man talking in Finnish and some silent guitars in the background, and I don't know that much Finnish (just a few words, and most of them are not kind). But after that it's much more interesting. This is something for fans of bands like IN FLAMES, AMORPHIS, AMON AMARTH, DARK TRANQUILLITY etc. In other words a 90s sound that we all know, but with a modern twist. And this is a really good album with many strong songs, that I think all fans of this genre should check out. So do that.

SATAN TAKES A HOLIDAY: Traps! feat. Dregen
Despotz Records - Digital Single

Put your dancing shoes on, because Swedish electro rock trio SATAN TAKES A HOLIDAY have released a new single. This time they have teamed up with the legendary guitarist Dregen (BACKYARD BABIES, The HELLACOPTERS, MIDLIFE CRISIS) for a new version of "Traps!", originally recorded in 2022. On this track they blend rock n roll, 60s garage rock and dark modern pop. It's catchy and energetic, but as usual with a dance beat. And I don't think that too many can combine rock and dance beats and get away with it in the rock scene. But this band is the odd bird that can, and they even makes it sound good too.

SIGHT OF EMPTINESS: Above The Noise
King2Music - Digital Album
Costa Rica's SIGHT OF EMPTINESS has been around since 2005, so they celebrate their 20th anniversary this year with a tour and this new album, which is their fifth. It was produced and mixed by Thomas Plec Johansson (OPETH, MAYHEM, SOILWORK etc).
This is a very diverse album. But when it's as best, the vocals is brutal and the guitars melodic, and it sounds like a perfect kind of melodic death metal to me. But unfortunately there's also these useless tracks, that are soft and atmospheric middle things (or whatever I should call it?). This is in other words a band with different sides. So if you want to listen to this, then you better have an open mind for other stuff than hard and extreme metal. Otherwise this might not work for you.

HELLOWEEN: March Of Time
BMG on March 28 - 3CD, 5LP, Digital
HELLOWEEN celebrate their 40th anniversary with this deluxe, career spanning anthology. And these German legends are pioneers of the genre power metal, which was created by combining the speed of thrash metal, the twin-guitar approach of NWOBHM, and the hymnal melodies of European folk music (according to the press info). We get 42 handpicked tracks from the early days to their successful reunion in 2016 (when Kai Hansen (guitar/vocals) and Michael Kiske (vocals) came back). But the big question is why "I'm Alive" from "Keeper Of The Seven Keys Part I" isn't included here? That song is 10 times better than long pieces like "Halloween" and "Keeper Of The Seven Keys" (the song), which are included. But I guess everyone will have a favorite that is not included in this collection. And a extra disc with rare tracks and b-sides could have been nice as well, because as far as I know there's nothing unique here. It's a very good introduction to the band though, no doubt about that.
It seems like HELLOWEEN wasn't really themselves after the succeess with the 2 "Keeper Of The Seven Keys" albums. Songs like "Number One" and "Windmill" is not HELLOWEEN according to me, and not even power metal. That must have been their weakest moment. So many questions pop up in my head, like "How were they thinking here?". I mean, that last song is not even hard rock.
After that it gets better again, but they never really seems to come up to the same level as the 3 first albums. I would not say that everything sucks though. Oh no, there's some good stuff here and there. But I guess it's because I don't have any earlier relation to those songs that I think they are much weaker than the early stuff I was listening to when I was a kid. So people who have grown up with the later stuff probably like that much more instead. But with that said, I must say that I have started to like "Skyfall" after hearing it on the live album "Live At Budokan", that was released in December last year. Mainly the catchy chorus then, because it's another long song. And after listeneing to this anthology a few times, I can also enjoy some of the other songs as well, like "Kids Of The Century", "Perfect Gentleman", "If I Could Fly", "My God Given Right" and "Best Time" for example.
Well, it's a very fat collection that we get, and they really show us all that they are more than just a power metal band. I would say that there's also some hard rock and almost progressive metal once in a while. Hardcore fans should of course get this as soon as possible. And those who are not so familiar with the band can always stream it before they buy it.
HELLOWEEN are currently working on a new studio album, and will hit the European roads in the fall to continue the celebration.

LORDI: Limited Deadition
Reigning Phoenix Music on March 21 - CD, 2LP, Digital
Finnish hard rock/heavy metal band LORDI was founded in 1992, but didn't get international recognition until they participated in the Eurovison Song Contest in 2006 and won. Their new album is a homage to the 80s toy culture.
LORDI look like GWAR and have really tried to make an album that sounds like it would have been made in the 80s. Think of something like Alice Cooper and KISS during that era for example. The songs are mainly melodic and inspired by AOR, but with a sharp and more metallic edge. I would say that most of these songs sounds more like hard rock than heavy metal, but it sounds good as the songs are really strong. There's lots of catchy melodies and keyboards among the metal riffing, but also cinematic overtones.

GOTTHARD: Stereo Crush
Reigning Phoenix Music on March 21 - LP, CD, Digital
Swizz hard rockers GOTTHARD have been around for over 30 years now, and released their first album back in 1992. But as far as I can remember I have never heard them before until I got this album. "Stereo Crush" is their 14th studio album, and this is an album with some good stuff and some less interesting stuff. Songs like "Thunder And Lightning", "Liverpool" and "Shake, Shake" are among the better stuff, while slow songs like "Burning Bridges" and "Life" are not so good.
Now I can't compare this with their previous recordings, as I have not heard that, but I would guess that this is a pretty good album in their catalog anyway.
On this album founding members Leo Leoni and Marc Lynn are joined by Freddy Scherer, Nic Maeder, and new drummer Flavio Mezzodi. They will be touring around Europe from late May to December.

HEART LINE: Falling Heaven
Pride & Joy Music on March 21 - CD, Digital
HEART LINE is a melodic rock band from France, and "Falling Heaven" is their third album. They stay true to their sound, but also present some more powerful songs here, as well as some AOR songs, but are always inspired by the sound of the 80s.
If you like it melodic, then this is absolutely worth a chance, because they are very good at what they are doing and seems to know how to make great songs as well. Even the slow songs are good, and that doesn't happen too often. So there's not that much to complain about here, but not much else to add either.

ALIEN: When Yesterday Comes Around
Pride & Joy Music on March 21 - CD, Digital
Swedish melodic rock band ALIEN are back again. They have been active now and then since 1986, and their biggest succees is their self-titled debut album from 1988 and the single "Only One Woman". Their latest album, "Into the Future", was released in 2020. And now they return with a new album, "When Yesterday Comes Around".
With this new album they take us back to the golden years, but with a modern sound, so it's not exactly the same. There's some good songs here, but unfortunately also some that are a little boring actually. So to me this is a little dissapointment, as I expected it to be much better. I remember that I really liked their debut album when it came out, and this is much weaker. On the other hand, many years have passed since then, so I probably ask for too much. The good songs are absolutely worth listening to anyway, so this is not a total disaster.
Among the best songs here are "If Love Is War" and "Aiming High". "Hearts On Fire" (no not the HAMMERFALL song) is also worth to mention as a stronger moment.

WHISKEY RITUAL: Still Scum
Folter Records on March 20 - 10" EP, MCD
Black metal punks WHISKEY RITUAL have made a covers EP with a wild mix of different artists. They begin with the punk anthem "Borstal Breakout" by SHAM 69, and continue with "Real Wild Child" by Iggy Pop. After that we get songs from COCK SPARRER, The CASUALTIES, DEVO and The DICTATORS. They put their own raw and dirty touch on these songs, and almost make them sound like WHISKEY RITUAL songs. And that sound is something similar to drunk hooligans. But these hooligans decided to say fuck off to sports and play punky black n roll instead, which was a very good idea as music is much more intelligent than something stupid like football or golf for example.
Well, this is a pretty good EP, so maybe you should check it out? Of course you should!

SYKOFANT: Red Sun EP
Sykofant on March 20 - Digital EP
Norwegian band SYKOFANT released their debut album last year, and here's the second chapter. This release is said to dive deeper into the concept and sonic universe first introduced on their debut, exploring and expanding upon its evocative desert themes, but delivers the same depth and intricacy that listeners have come to expect from the band, featuring layered compositions, complex rhythms and expressive melodies.
This is pretty soft progressive rock, made by fans of the genre for other fans of the same kind of music. These 3 songs are pretty long, between 6-9 minutes. It's just as adventurous as you can expect it to be, and they are of course very good at what they are doing (just as people who play this stuff use to be). This is in other words worth checking out if you are into progressive rock. But I guess it could also be worth a try if you want something softer or something different than what you use to listen to.
"Red Sun EP" is the first of 2 interconnected releases, both thematically and musically, with the second set to arrive later in 2025. Together, these twin EPs will form a cohesive album, which will be available in physical formats (vinyl and CD).

PREDATOR: Unsafe Space
Fighter Records on March 18 - CD, LP, Cassette, Digital
U.S. heavy metal band PREDATOR release their first album in years. And this album delivers a heavy-hitting mix of speed, thrash, and classic heavy metal.
The band originally formed back in 1984, and released their first record, "Easy Prey", in 1986 via Metal Blade Records. Now they return with a really strong album, which is filled with their high-speed, riff-driven sound. It's said to channel the raw energy of their early years while pushing their sound even further. And 1 thing is very sure, they have lots of great songs among these 12 tracks. So you should of course give these guys a try. This is an album that should fit most fans of metal, but especially those who like true classic hevay metal, speed metal and thrash metal.
The only question mark here is the cover of "California Dreaming" by The MAMAS & The PAPAS. It's a good song, and they're doing a o.k. version, but it just doesn't fit in (maybe that was the whole idea?).

The DEVILS: Devil's Got It
Go Down Records (EU)/Cleopatra Records (Rest of the world) - LP, CD, Digital
If you're looking for something cool, then this is what you're looking for, because this band is one of the coolest right now. It's bluesy, and their sound is raw and dirty, often with much distortion. But we also have more soulful numbers, which sounds like soul music with distorted guitar. Excellent songs and no boring moments.
The DEVILS is a duo from Naples, Italy, comprised of Gianni Blacula (guitar/vocals) and Erika Switchblade (vocals/drums). They have been rocking for 10 years now, but have never really played blues or soul music before. But with this new album they thought that it was time for a tribute to that kind of music, as it has always been an influence for these garage rockers.
"Devil's Got It" is their 6th album, and it's a covers album. Which artists who made the original versions is a mystery to me.

DIMMAN: Consciousness
Inverse Records - Digital Album
DIMMAN is a melodic death metal band from Finland, and this is their second album. It's said that "over the years, the band's music has evolved to be more riff-driven, but beautiful melodies and technical musicianship continue to make the songs versatile and full of surprises". This time they are flirting with nu-metal, metalcore, and black metal as well, so it's not just another band with the well-known Gothenburg sound that we have here, but something more ambitious (or however I should explain it?). They are simply very good at what they are doing and have lots of good songs as well. So you should really give these guys a try.

DUN RINGILL: 150-Where The Old Gods Play Act 2
The Sign Records - CD, LP, Digital
In 2023, this Swedish band released "150-Where the Old Gods Play Act 1", and now it's time for the second part of this conceptual double album. And just like last time, Nordic folk, doom and progressive metal meets storytelling lyrics. The story is based on a movie script written by Patrik Andersson Winberg (bassist and main songwriter in DUN RINGILL) and Jonas Granath (teacher in religion and literature), and takes place in Scotland in early 1900. It centers around the manipulation of the church, with a priest whose secret agenda only reveals itself at the end. Contact has been made with movie producers who have shown great interest in the script thus far. And the album also features guest performances by Per Wiberg (keyboard on "The Robe & Crown" and "My Father"), Anna Acid (spoken word on "Lucias Monologue, part 2") and Matilda Winberg (vocals on "A New Day Dawns").
This is a varied album, but mainly powerful and with harsh vocals. They really seems to know what they are doing, as it sounds very professional. Most of the songs here are good, so there's not that much to complain about as the bad tracks are very few. This is an interesting musical adventure with a short piece (1:50 minutes) and longer pieces (7:30-9:50 minutes), as well as a couple of tracks of "normal" length (4:27-5:47 minutes).

Lucie Sue: Battlestation
Lucie Sue - Digital Single
"Battlestation" is the first single from Lucie Sue's upcoming self-titled album. This track is said to be a manifesto for female emancipation. It's powerful and catchy with heavy riffs and an aggressive rythm. Yet it's not really strong enough to be a single. But I would not say that it's bad.
The music is a fusion of 90s grunge and modern metal. A sound that you could call both nostalgic and avantgarde I suppose. And I would guess that's where the problem is for me. I like 90s grunge, but modern metal is not always so interesting. And the word avantgarde is usually enough to scare me away, becuase that's hardly ever something interesting for me.

SCOWL: Tonight (I'm Afraid)
Dead Oceans - Digital Single
This Santa Cruz hardcore band are actually not so hardcore here. We find them at their most vulnerable. It's not until the end of the song that it's more action and some screaming, but still not any hardcore. So it's almost more like a indie rock song according to me. But somehow I like it more for each time I listen, so it's obviously good no matter what genre it might be.
"Tonight (I'm Afraid)" comes from their forthcoming album, "Are We All Angels", which will be released on April 4.

The CAPELLAS: Love Prayer
Rogue Records - 7" Single, Digital Single
The CAPELLAS are a rhythm & blues and raw soulful beat quartet from the UK, featuring Elsa Whittaker on vocals (The MISSING SOULS, The JACK CADES), Mike Whittaker on guitar (THEE VICARS, The BARON FOUR, The JACK CADES), Mole on bass (The EMBROOKS, The BARON FOUR) and Yan Quellien on drums (The BARRACUDAS, CHROME REVERSE). This is their second release, following their 2023 7" EP on Sweet Grooves Records.
These groovy numbers can easily make you shake your hips, and as usual when it comes to French label Rogue Records, it sounds exactly like something from the 60s. It's a cool sound and I really like what I hear. Fans of rock from the 60 have to check this out.
The title track is a original song, while the B-side's "Zig Zag Wanderer" is a CAPTAIN BEEFHEART cover.

Dom Mariani: Jangleland
Rogue Records - 7" Single, Digital Single
Australian man Dom Mariani was the frontman of garage rockers The STEMS and power pop band DM3. His current band is a blues heavy outfit called DATURA4. But now he goes solo and step away from that, and return to his jangle pop roots instead. This single is an ode to the electric folk rock of the late 1960s and the sun-kissed West Coast vibe of the early 70s. The title track is written by Dom, while the B-side, "Day After Day", is a BAD FINGER cover (and not the song by Swedish schlager pop duo CHIPS).
Both these tracks are pretty soft, but with hope somehow, and it's pretty good stuff with that 60s sound that is so typical for releases from Rogue Records. I guess that this is more for those who like it more melodic with a pop vibe.

KICKIN VALENTINA: The Gotaways
Mighty Music - Digital Single
A new song with KICKIN VALENTINA is always interesting, because this is a band that I really like.
This is the first taste of their new album, "Raw Trax, B Sides and Bootlegs" (no release date yet). It's a rebellious, full-throttle celebration of life on the run, delivering loud, unapologetic, and 100% live rock n roll, just the way we have got used to when it comes to these American ass kickers. In other words a damn good hard rocker in the same tradition as something like BACKYARD BABIES for example.

It's a little dreamy as usual. The band says that it's "the link between our surfy, California garage influences and our faster, colder influences... You could even say our more European influences".

MARTY AND THE BAD PUNCH: Marty And The Bad Punch
Enghardt Media/Bad Punch Records on March 14 - CD, LP
Marty Punch is a guitarist from Munich, Germany. He has previously self-released 2 albums (in 2014 and 2020), and is now returning with his third album, where we find Tommy Denander (TALISMAN, HOUSE OF LORDS, Paul Stanley, PHENOMENA) on guitars and keyboards, Dan Byrne on vocals, Tony Franklin (The FIRM, BLUE MURDER) on bass, and Josh Devine (ONE DIRECTION, LEVARA) on drums. In other words a international lineup.
What these people has to offer is the finest kind of melodic rock. So this is of course a must to check out for every fan of that genre. The songs are really strong and diverse with both more melodic tunes and a few rockers, as well as softer moments. The kind of album that should please most people.
"Have Faith" is one of the stronger moments here, even though it's a slower song, almost a ballad. The strings for this song was actually recorded by Stockholm Strings at ABBA's legendary RMV Studios. They also used Benny Andersson's (ABBA) piano for the song.

TROLD: I Skovens Rige
Mighty Music on March 14 - LP, CD, Digital
This is just as catchy and melodic as this kind of music use to be, and a little happy as well. But they can also play fast once in a while, and the vocals is harsh. It's mainly an intense experience, but not all the time. It sounds like some drunk trolls who lives in the forest, and decided to play some folk metal that they can sing-along to. But it works, as this is very good stuff. They have simply a very strong material that they can be proud of.
The album title "I Skovens Rige" means the Kingdom of the Forest, and this album takes the listener on adventures of many kinds. All lyrics are in Danish and centered in one way or another on the forest.
We also get some guest performances from people like Esse (ex-HATESPHERE) on death vocals, Lars Thiesgaard (a famous Danish actor) on characteristic speak, and Laura Emilie Beck (ex-HULDRE, ÆLLVILD) on violin, among others.

And now he will deliver his first live album as a solo artist, which was recorded in his hometown Fredericia (he is now living in Copenhagen though) on May 28, 2021.
Soren (as he call himself outside Denmark) is joined by Michael Gersdorff on bass and drummer Allan Tschicaja (PRETTY MAIDS), and this could be described as listening to different guitar solos. But that's not entirely correct, as he is actually playing melodies too. But you really have to like guitars and guitar music if you're going to enjoy this. Bassists will probably like this too though, as he',s very good too at what he',s doing. And for the drummers there's a drum solo as well.
The album will be followed by Danish tour dates between March 21 to May 17.

BLACK & DAMNED: Resurrection
ROAR on March 14 - LP, CD
The story about this German band began in 2020, when 2 musicians - Michael Vetter (guitar and bass, ex-PUMP) and Roland Seidel (vocals, ex-WASTELAND) - had nothing to do because of the worldwide lockdown, and decided to do something together. In a very short time they made 12 epic heavy metal songs, with influences from IRON MAIDEN, BLACK SABBATH and HELLOWEEN, to name a few. Axel Winkler (drums, ex-SUBWAY), Axel Mackenrott (keyboards, MASTERPLAN) and Tommy Laasch (backing vocals, CHINCHILLA) joined them in the studio for what became their debut album, "Hevenly Creatures" (2021). The lineup was then completed by Aki Reißmann (guitar, ex-PUMP) and Pappe Lee (bass, LICENCE).
"Resurrection" is their third album, and what we get is a a wild mix of doomy and powerful power metal tracks and pumping metal anthems, as well as some more melodic songs. They have a modern sound, but the songs are obviously inspired by the old school. So I would guess that both old and young could like this band. It sounds good to me anyway.

WARBRINGER: Wrath & Ruin
Napalm Records on March 14 - 2CD, CD, LP, Digital
WARBRINGER has existed for a few years now, and this is their 7th album. They are said to be a modern thrash metal band (most likely becuse they're not from the 80s), but they are not doing anything unique here, as it sounds pretty old school to me anyway. But it doesn't really matter that it reminds me of many other thrash bands, as it sounds really good. So this is of course worth listening to for every fan of thrash.
This is an explosive album that should make you want to bang your head from the first second to the last. It goes fast, but sometimes it's also heavier, so you never get too much of the fast or the heavy. Not a single weak moment, which is really strong.
If you don't check this out, then don't call yourself metal.

WOMBBATH: Beyond The Abyss
Pulverised Records on March 14 - CD, LP, Digital
Swedish death metallers WOMBBATH return with their 7th album, and they have also returned to Pulverised Records, 10 years after working together for the first time. But the story about this band goes back to 1990, and they released their first album in 1993. In 2015 they returned after 22 years, and they were a meaner, faster and far more menacing entity they say.
After a few more albums and a new lineup, they will now release "Beyond The Abyss", which they say is more evil and angrier than the previous album, "Agma" (2021). It's mainly dark and filthy death metal, but they also continue the progressive and experimental that they began with on the last album. Luckily there's just 10 songs this time, and not 16 like last time.
It sounds good, until there's a violin, which is a odd addition to their sound. But that's actually not the most odd instrument here, as there's also saxophone in 1 of the songs, played by Erik Barthold (ROTPIT, LEFT HAND SOLUTION). Well, it makes them sound unique anyway.

WISHING WELL & The WHEELERS AND DEALERS: Boys Will Be Boys
Inverse Records - Digital Single
Damn what an anthem they have written this time!
Finnish hard rockers WISHING WELL have teamed up with The WHEELERS AND DEALERS choir (featuring Graham Bonnet) for a extra strong chorus, and this song really kicks ass. This is a simple and straight feel good rocker to sing-along to. Not a typical song for this band, but they should do some more of this stuff.
This is the band's first new music since their album "Sin And Shame", which was released in March 2023. At the moment the band is working on their fifth album, due to be released in the spring of 2026.

HÄ/DA: Ball Buster
Inverse Records - Digital Single
This is a Finnish hard rock duo, who hardly hide that they are fans of AC/DC, yet they doesn't sound exactly like a copy of them. This new single tells a true, cautionary tale about meeting a beautiful lady with superb pool playing skills in Berlin. Although it is possible to interpret the lyrics in a different way as well. The song comes from a new 5-track EP, "(Almost) 20 Minutes Of Love", which will be released this month.
This is a very good song. It's just as catchy as a AC/DC song. You should play it for your friends at your next party. I'm pretty sure that it will be a succees.
HÄ/DA is a product of the guitarist Juho "Hässi" Hämäläinen and the vocalist Antti "DeeAa" Heikkinen. Hässi also play in a AC/DC tribute band, called DIRTY DEEDS INDEED, as well as the hard rock band Rane Rautiainen & Paha Kaksonen. DeeAa sings and plays the guitar for the heavy rock band MOSFITE.

FRANTIC AMBER: Hell's Belle
ROAR - Digital Single

Swedish all-female melodic death metal band FRANTIC AMBER is currently gearing up for the release of their much-awaited, third studio album, entitled "Death Becomes Her", due out on April 4 via ROAR. But before that they will release a couple of singles, and this is the second single from the upcoming album.
"Death Becomes Her" will be a concept album about female serial killers, and includes different kinds of killers and categories of serial killers. "Hell's Belle" Gunness was a particularly gruesome Black Widow type serial killer, who lured unsuspecting men to her Indiana farm with promises of love, only to poison and dismember them for their money. She also orchestrated multiple insurance frauds and many suspicious deaths, including those of her husbands and children. The song has a lot of black metal inspiration and combines a waltz with blast beats giving it a ruthless sway. They have also incorporated a lot of orchestra to set the mood and tone.
This song last for 6 minutes, but with the help of an interesting soundscape it's not too long. A pretty good song with many different elements.

AUTOGRAMM: Randy
Dirt Cult Records (N.A.)/Goodwill Records (EU) - 7" Single, Digital Single
AUTOGRAMM is a synth-driven new wave/power pop band with members from Seattle, Chicago and Vancouver. This is their latest single, and the vinyl edition also includes "Jenny's In A Sleep World", which was originally recorded by Toronto punks The DIODES, and released in 1979.
The new single follows AUTOGRAMM's tradition of crafting sing-along new wave anthems, but this time with a humorous twist. "Randy" was originally slated to be released as part of their latest album, "Music That Humans Can Play", but was omitted as the subject of the lyrics became inaccurate. Being a self described "cat band" they naturally - after some deliberation - decided to re-record the vocals and dedicate the content of the lyrics to their drummer's cat, Randy.
Well, I have reviewed some singles with this band before and liked what I have heard. And this new single sounds really good too. "Randy" reminds me of a British band like The JAM mixed with DEVO. "Jenny's In A Sleep World" sounds like a mix of The UNDERTONES and DEVO. In other words cool stuff worth checking out.
AUTOGRAMM will be on tour in Spain between March 22-29.

The BLOODY HELL: Feel It Too
The Bloody Hell - Digital Single
The BLOODY HELL is a punk band from Canada, and "Feel It Too" is the first single from their forthcoming album, "Blood Code". This seems to be the first new music since 2022, when they released the album "Nobody Cares". The band formed in 2017 and have released 2 albums so far.
Among the influences for this band are MISFITS, NIRVANA and MOTÖRHEAD. But that doesn't mean that they sounds like any of those bands. Their goal is to make super catchy guitar rock songs about hardship and heartache played with intensity and passion, at punk rock speeds.
This is a really good punk rock anthem with raw vocals, and I wouldn't say no to some more of this, so I look forward to hear the new album.

CANNONBALL: Anger Strike
SODEH Records - Digital Single
French rockers CANNONBALL have released their 4th single, "Anger Strike". It's described as a raw, electrifying battle cry. And it's also said to be fueled by blistering energy and relentless intensity. But honestly, what do I really get? Emotional and whiny vocals to a catchy rock song, but not much raw energy and intensity. No, this was a dissapointment and not really my thing.
The only nice thing I can say is that I have heard a lot worse.

ARCHITECTS: The Sky, The Earth & All Between
Epitaph Records - LP, CD, Digital
They begin so modern and emotional that it makes me feeling bad, and I think the whole album will sound like that. But then they suddenly put the pedal to the metal and surprise me by being really hard and heavy. I didn't see that coming.. But the chorus had to be melodic of course, but in this case it works. Well, the rest of the album continues like that, hard and heavy verses is mixed with melodic choruses. We talk modern metalcore here, and for being that this is actually surprisingly good. Who would have thought that I would say that? No one is more surprised than myself.
But everything is not so good here. After a few songs they just had to slow it down, and then it sounds too much like modern pop (and as you might know by now, I hate that). But in general it's hard and heavy, and sometimes really fast parts as well where they mix punk attitude and crushing intensity. The vocals goes from frenetic screams to guttural growls via soaring melodic clean singing. A metalcore album worth checking out.
ARCHITECTS is a British band, and this is their 11th studio album.

GODSLAVE: Champions
Metalville Records on March 14 - CD, Digital
GODSLAVE celebrate their 15th anniversary with a special tribute album. It's in other words a covers album, with songs that inspired them to make music themselves. And this is a wild mixture of punk rock songs from bands like PENNYWISE, NOFX and The OFFSPRING; classic metal like ICED EARTH, MOTÖRHEAD, WHIPLASH, JUDAS PRIEST and The HAUNTED; and on top of that we have songs by LIMP BIZKIT, SAMAEL, DOG EAT DOG, DIE TOTEN HOSEN, SENTENCED and even David Haselhoff. But they do all these songs their own way, which is the heavy and thrash metal way, so don't worry too much. Metal fans should enjoy this a lot, because there's many ass kicking songs among these 20 tracks. And the only problem might be just that, that it's as much as 20 tracks, which is a little too much. But on the other hand, 3 of these tracks are as short as 9 seconds to a minute.
Best tracks then? "Don't Call Me White" (NOFX), "Hard As Iron" (JUDAS PRIEST) and "Stay Hungry" (TWISTED SISTER).
They plan to release a new album with their own songs in 2026.

CROSSON: Nobody Wins
Wormholedeath Records - Digital Single
Australian theatrical glam rockers CROSSON have signed to Wormholedeath Records, and returns with a new single from their upcoming album, "Guilty Of Rock", which will be released on June 13. It's as usual a mix of 80s hard rock and MEATLOAF. It sounds like something epic and melodic from the 80s, almost like a forgotten hit song from that era. So it's not that much glam rock in this song. But if you like melodic hard rock, then I really recomend you to check this out.
CROSSON is hardly a new band, and "Guilty Of Rock" will be their 7th studio album.

Epitaph Records - Digital Single
Orlando, Florida band MAGNOLIA PARK are said to play a fusion of nu metal and metalcore, and now they have teamed up with dark-pop artist Plvtinum and New Zealand singer Vana, and blend in trap infused beats. This is not metal at all! It sounds more like a modern pop song, and I hate that shit so much, so goodbye.
Why can't the kids play music that I like instead of shit like this? Simply, why can't they play real metal?
A concept album, "Vamp", will be released on April 11.

Martin Rubashov: Tracker
Despotz Records - Digital Single
Swedish singer/songwriter Martin Rubashov gives us his 4th single from the upcoming album "Origins Of Water", which will be released on March 21.
"Tracker is a journey through forests, water, and a memory", Martin says. The previous singles have been calm and melancholy, but this song is even more silent, and I don't really know what I should think of it. So you could say that it's a difficult little bastard that doesn't really get into your head. It just floats around on the surface before disappearing. O.k. while you listen, but impossible to remember.

Swedish melodic rock band NATIONWIDE have released a new single, their cover of Kenny Loggings' "Danger Zone", from the soundtrack to the 80s movie Top Gun. As you might know already, rock singer Robin McAuley have a past in acts like MSG, BLACK SWAN, GRAND PRIX and SURVIVOR. He has just released his third solo album, "Soulbound" (review of that later), and that's where this track comes from, where he shows us all that he still have some power in his pipes. STRÖM: Ödet Slår Hårt
Black Lodge Records - 7" Single, Digital Single
In January this year, Swedish hard rock band STRÖM began to record their third studio album. And this song is one that they felt extra strong for, so now it has been released as a single, because they just couldn't let us wait for it.
It's a true rock banger, and it definitely live up to what you can expect from this great band. In other words a great anthem that you just have to check out if you like a band like AC/DC (this band sing in Swedish though).
The exclusive B-side on the physical vinyl single is the song "Bedövar En Stund", which was recorded for their second album but didn't make the cut due to space limitations. I have not heard it, so I can't say anything about it. But it's said to be an arena anthem, so it's probably another good song.

STATEMENT: My Last Goodbye
Mighty Music - Digital Single
Staying true to their melodic roots while embracing a heavier and darker sound, this Danish hard rock/metal band is said to deliver raw emotions and high-energy riffs in their brand new single, kicking off the promotion round for their upcoming studio album (which I have no info about yet). This track have deep drop C-tuned guitars, emotionally charged vocals, and an unforgettable chorus. It sounds very metal and heavy. But high-energy riffs?: I don't really know about that.. It's a pretty modern sound, but not too modern, so in the end it's a pretty good song. Give it a try.
STATEMENT formed in 2011, and have since 2014 released 4 albums.

PUTERAEON: I Am The Darkness
Emanzipation Productions on March 7 - Digital Single

This song is described as a relentless blend of old school Swedish death metal and eerie melodic hooks, where crushing riffs and haunting atmospheres collide. It's the first single from an upcoming album, which will be the final chapter of their Lovecraftian horror odyssey. It sounds just like it should, so this is a really good death metal song with all the right ingredients.
Swedish death metallers PUTERAEON started to play in 2008, and have released 4 albums and a couple of EPs so far. The members have a past in acts like TAETRE, RECLUSION and NOMINON, among others.

SILVER PHANTOM: Satellites (Crash And Burn Mix)
Popshit Records on March 7 - Digital Single
SILVER PHANTOM is a theatrical shock rock band from Randers in Denmark. And this song is described as "a hypnotic blend of hard rock and heavy rock, packed with pounding beats, a mesmerizing chorus, and a dramatic atmosphere that will captivate fans of GHOST, Marilyn Manson and Alice Cooper". It's the second single from their upcoming album, scheduled for release in late 2025.
What this band wants to do is to "push the boundaries of shock-rock with a modern twist, staying true to the genre's roots while infusing it with new, captivating energy". To me it sounds like hard rock/heavy metal, and this is a really good song that you really should check out. Very promising for the new album.

SACROSANCT: Kidron
ROAR on March 7 - LP, CD, Digital
SACROSANCT was established in 1988 already as a thrash metal band, but their sound gradually progressed to a more edgy, melodic and atmospheric aural landscape. They released 3 albums in the early 90s, and in 2018 they returned after a 25-year hiatus with their 4th album, "Necropolis".
It has taken its time, but now they return with a new album again. And this album is said to be even more powerful, yet complex and catchy. They say that they combine all their trademarks here. And what we get is progressive metal, so there's a little bit of everything here you could say. But I would say that it's mainly melodic, even if there's hard parts too. It sounds experienced and the songs are not bad at all, so it could be worth a try.
What I miss here is a song that is extra good, but you can't get everything, and let's be glad that there's nothing extra bad instead.

OVERDRIVERS: Glory Or Nothing
ROAR on March 7 - CD, LP
You could look at it this way: KROKUS is a copy of AC/DC and OVERDRIVERS is a copy of KROKUS. But that's not an entirely correct description, as OVERDRIVERS are more of a pure hard rock band.
This French band have been around for 10 years now, and have released a couple of albums and a EP. They deliver a raw and energetic energy that will make people bang their heads and shake loose. Most of these 12 songs sounds good, so fans of old school hard rock should give this a try.
What else I should say is a mystery..

IN MOURNING: The Weight Of Oceans (reissue)
Dalapop/Spinefarm Records - 2LP, CD
"The Weight Of Oceans" is the third studio album by Swedish melodic death metallers IN MOURNING, it was originally released in 2012. The album marked the band's mythology inspired conceptual story that journeys to the sea, and musically it's a broad spectrum of influences, from doomy metal riffs, blasting drumbeats and deep growling vocals to calm breezes of clean flowing melodies and harmonies. Pretty ambitious you could say, but not over ambitious and too much, but a pretty good album actually. The songs are often pretty long, approximately 7-9 minutes, but there's some shorter tracks too, 1 and a half to 5:50 minutes.
IN MOURNING are currently working on a brand new album.

Originally conceived as a 2-man project in 2019 by guitarists Tommi Kangaskortet and Henri Vuorenmaa, Finnish melodic death metal heavyweights VOIDFALLEN has evolved into a full band with talented musicians. Their debut album, "The Atlas of Spiritual Apocalypse", was released in 2021. And with this new album they elevate their sound to new heights. It's epic and melodic thanks to the symphonic elements, yet hard and heavy as it's death metal. And they blend these ingredients perfectly. It sounds powerful and it's a really good album that they have made. If you like melodic death metal, then you should really check this out. That's all I have to say..

v/a - Metal Is Forged Here Vol. 4
Metallurg Music - CD, Digital
Polish/Ukraine music agency Metallurg Music is turning 16 years. And to celebrate it they have released this compilation, which is a wild mix of different artists and genres, everything from heavy and thrash metal to death and doom metal via industrial metal to metalcore. And the bands comes from all over the world (more or less) - Australia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Denmark, Germany, Luxemburg, Italy, Paraguay, Poland, Switzerland, Ukraine and USA. And as usual with compilations, some stuff is good and some not so interesting. But there's nothing extra good here, so it's not like I have found any new favorite bands.
All bands are underground artists, so if you want to know what's going on in the underground, then this could be worth a try. Among these artists are names like SILVER PHANTOM, Marshall Beck & The TOTALLY TOUGH GUYS, MALTWORM, NOISECIDE, MASS PUNISHMENT, FUELED BY FEAR, SERPENT BITE, CRUCIFER, STEALTH, MENTAL TORMENT, BLIND SALVATION etc. A total of 17 tracks and 17 bands.

SUPERLOADER: Reckless Hearts Bruiser Club
Superloader on March 7 - Vinyl EP, Digital EP
These Copenhagen-based rockers debuted in 2016 with the album "Travel In Time". They have had the current lineup since 2022, and some of them have experience from bands like VOLBEAT and BLACK CITY. The music that they play is pure, unfiltered rock n roll, with energy, melody and attitude. They call it "eccentric bruiser rock".
In 2023 the band released ",EP1" and "EP2" along with several singles, which were later compiled into the 2024 album "Restless Souls". Now they were more into Scandinavian action rock instead of the heavy rock on the first album (if I get it right?).
I would not say that they continue on that path with this new 5-track EP (but then I don't think I have heard that album), because most of these songs are pretty catchy and melodic, but not so energetic. It's almost a little too soft for being influenced by Scandinavian action rock, but not bad. In their best moments I guess you could call the music garage rock, but without the 60s sound.
A funny thing here is that they begin with the least interesting song, and after that it just gets better and better for each song. So when the final number comes, "My Reckless Heart", then they suddenly perform their best song here.

SHRINE OF DENIAL: I, Moloch
Transcending Obscurity Records on March 7 - LP, CD, Digital
What we have here is a Turkish blackened death metal band, and this is their debut album, but the members are experienced. They blend different styles to create their own sound with twists and turns, but yet a thought out structure. The mix of death and black metal makes it brutal and intense, but it's not full speed ahead all the time. They effortlessly switches from fast, blasting parts to slow melodic hooks and then quickly accelerates back to their high-speed mode.
Their record label, Transcending Obscurity Records, says that "I, Moloch" "is one of the strongest albums not only to come out of that region in recent times but also in the blackened death metal style as a whole". And what can I say? It sounds like they are very good at what they are doing anyway, so if you like it brutal and a little demanding, then give these guys a try.

ETXALE APIO: Furia Animal
Art Gates Records on March 7 - CD, Digital
ETXALE APIO is a hardcore/metal band from Cartagena in Spain, formed in 2006. They blend crushing drum beats, razor-sharp guitars and raw, gut-wrenching vocals with a fierce fight against social injustices. All their lyrics are in Spanish.
This group started as a punk rock band, but have since evolved towards a heavier sound influenced by hardcore and metal. They even played punk/Oi and hardcore for a while, but seems to have found their sound in a mix of hardcore and metal now. They have already released a few albums and a couple of EPs, so this is hardly their first release.
The songs are delivered with energy, so they are not as heavy as some other bands in this genre use to be. Sometimes they are actually melodic. But I like the energy and their songs here, so I hardly complain. This is absolutely worth a try.

D'OR: Antiheroes
Metalapolis Records on March 7 - CD, LP, Digital
It's about 3 years since Swizz hard rockers D'OR released their debut album, "Veni Vidi Ignis", and now it's time for another album. They are obviously very inspired by American bands from the 80s and the Sunset Strip, like MÖTLEY CRÜE, SKID ROW and RATT for example. But nothing wrong with that. You can definitely have worse influences than that.
This album is said to be a logical successor to the debut album, presenting itself with even stronger songs and a fatter, more fitting sound. It's dirty and loud hard rock made to kick ass. But there's also elements of US metal like ARMORED SAINT this time, and sometimes even some Teutonic metal like ACCEPT. In other words really good stuff.

The DARKNESS: Walking Through Fire
Cooking Vinyl - Digital Single
Here's yet another single from the upcoming album "Dreams On Toast", which will be released on March 28. And it's a song in their classic style, so in other words a epic rock anthem with a pinch of glam, and on top of that the falsetto they are well-known for. KING HANNAH: Leftovers
City Slang - Digital Single
This wasn't really what I expected to hear. They said something about post punk, but what I get is a dark and slow song that sounds exactly the same for all 4:43 minutes that it last. I'm waiting for the song to explode with guitars, but unfortunately that doesn't happen. What a dissapointment. But it seems like this is not their typical song, if I get it right? So maybe next time then..
KING HANNAH is a indie rock duo from Liverpool, featuring Hannah Merrick and Craig Whittle. "Leftovers" was originally recorded for the album "Big Swimmer", but the band was never completely happy with the lyrics, and so this "leftover" track was rewritten in the months after the album was released.

Weird. This is almost like if The SPARKS and DEVO would get the idea to make a modern song with a female singer. Not really what I'm used to.
MAMALARKY is said to play indie rock, but I guess you could just as well call this math pop/rock or something like that, because it's hardly straight and simple. But you could also describe it as curious and playful. If you like more quirky bands, this might be something for you.

They have previously released 1 album and a EP, and are dedicated to crafting music that blends vivid storytelling with commanding compositions, and lyrics inspired by the works and the worlds of of J.R.R. Tolkien, Michael Moorcock and Andrzej Sapkowski. "Reforged" is said to highlight their versatility and ambition to push the boundaries of power metal, which can easily make you think that this is one of those more ambitious bands. But I would not say that this sounds so over ambitious, but mainly like pretty straight power metal in the good old tradition. So I like what I hear, and so should you.

This band doesn't really sound like all the other thrash bands, but are more wild, almost like VOIVOD with a crazy crust punk singer. They simply put their own twist on the good old thrash, and out comes something interesting. This is actually not so bad at all. It's hard, heavy and fast, as well as wild and crazy here and there. You should give them a try.
The band says: "This EP showcases our heavier, more to-the-point style of songwriting", and continues: "Our eventual first album will be more dynamic, featuring a broader range of influences and sounds."

MINDWARS: V
High Roller Records on March 7 - CD, LP, Cassette, Digital
MINDWARS are a Los Angeles based thrash metal band, and this is their fifth album. It was originally self-released in early 2024, but will now be released international through High Roller Records.
The group was formed in 2013 by guitarist/vocalist Mike Alvord (HOLY TERROR), and also features Italian drummer Roby Vitari and bassist Rick Zaccaro.
What you get is the classic stuff. It might not go ultra fast, but it's not so heavy either. And they might not be the hardest band, but hardly soft and nice either. It's just good thrash metal you could say, and you listen a few times and like it, but I would guess that it's not the kind of album that you get back to in a couple of months or a few years. Worth listening to though.
They end the album with a SUPERTRAMP cover, "The Logical Song", which is a little odd. But somehow they're doing a o.k. version anyway.

SCALPTURE: Landkrieg
Testimony Records on March 7 - CD, LP, Digital
German death metal tank SCALPTURE deliver their 4th album, "Landkrieg". Every song revolves around the 30 Year War that devastated the German lands 1618-1648. A funny thing is that the titles are in many different languages: English, Danish (or is it Norwegian?), German, Swedish and Latin. The music is really hard and brutal. This is absolutely not something for those who like it melodic. They have their own sound though, which is neither old school or modern, but rather a timeless sound with a little bit of both and then some. They have their good moments, but can also be quite demanding to listen to at certain times.

STAINLESS: Nocturnal Racer
High Roller Records on March 7 - MCD, MLP, Cassette, Digital
STAINLESS officially started in Portland, Oregon in 2022. Past and present members have all been active in the Pacific Northwest underground scene, playing in bands such as BLACK BREATH, LONG KNIFE, LEBENDEN TOTEN, HALT, BELLICOSE MINDS, NIGHTFELL, MALIKILI and RIPPER. Their first release was a self-released vinyl single, which is now followed by this mini-album, which consist of 4 tracks.
While their single was more blues-based, these songs are more metal. So it's a mix of hard rock and heavy metal that we get here, with raw and raspy female vocals, and the energy is really high. All 4 songs are really good and sounds like something from the NWOBHM era. So you should absolutely give this a try if you like that.
The band is already working on material for their full-length debut, which I look forward to hear. Because if they have more songs that are this good, then that album should be a masterpiece.

THRONE OF IRON: Adventure Two
No Remorse Records on March 7 - CD, LP
After 5 years, THRONE OF IRON are back with their second full-length album, "Adventure Two". It's an ode to high fantasy, tabletop gaming, and the spirit of adventure. The songs are said to be faster, heavier, louder and meaner than anything that they've done before.
Well, it sounds good to me anyway. True heavy metal in the good old tradition and a 80s sound. What else can you ask for? Yes, good songs of course. And that this band have as well.
It's melodic rather than hard and heavy, yet not any weak stuff as it's still heavy metal. This is not the raw and primitive kind, but rather a pretty complex kind of heavy metal, yet not advanced and boring. Hm.. Maybe you should listen for yourself?
One of the better songs here is "The Holy Fire Of St. Djezzagh", which is more uptempo and have some faster parts.
