LŸNX: Claws Out
Bullzhorn Records on May 9 - LP, CD, Cassette, Digital
From Calgary in Canada comes this hard rock/hair metal group, who formed during the pandemic. "Claws Out" is their third album, where we get a pretty straight rock n roll experience. Think of Sunset Strip in the 80s, but with a modern production that sounds like a demo recording. Mainly good stuff here, but there is a few weaker songs too (not that many). The material is varied, yet it's like something is missing here, but I'm not really sure what.
Even if this is a good album, there's lots of bands in this genre with a much stronger material. Still worth a try though.

SONS OF THUNDER: Thunderhood
Time To Kill Records on May 3 - CD, Digital
SONS OF THUNDER was formed in Rome, Italy in 2017. They are inspired by classic acts like AC/DC and MOTÖRHEAD. So far a few singles has been released, but here's a whole album with the band, where they gives us a dose of raw and dirty ass kicking hard rock n roll. It sounds more like AC/DC, AIRBOURNE and THUNDERMOTHER than MOTÖRHEAD, but who doesn't like that?
In other words really good stuff and definitely worth checking out.

SEVERED ANGEL: Skyward
Severed Angel on May 3 - CD, Digital
SEVERED ANGEL is a melodic heavy metal band, with members based in New York and Pennsylvania. "Skyward" is their second album, where they also blend in some power metal and progressive metal, which makes it extra powerful and epic sometimes. There's even some symphonic elements here and there. So it's a diverse material that we get here, and most of these 10 songs sounds really good.
But now it's like that again.. I just don't really know what else I should say about this. But give it a try anyway.

PIRATE QUEEN: Ghosts
Despotz Records on May 3 - LP, CD, Digital
So, the first all-female pirate metal band from the Bermuda Triangle finally deliver their debut album. And this album consist of more than just typical pirate metal, as there',s also some power metal and symphonic metal. It's often catchy and epic, and most of the songs have a big chorus and good melodies. The material is varied, with different elements.
Well, this sounds really good, but was it really neccesary with 3 different versions of the title track? Sure, one of my favorites, but this means that we just get 6 songs, and that's a very short album. I feel a little dissapointed as I expected more songs than that. This is without a doubt absolutley worth checking out though.

MY SILENT WAKE: Lost In Memories, Lost In Grief
Ardua Music on May 3 - LP, CD, Cassette
It's 4 years since this British band released a full-length album last time. But now they return with their 12th album. And what we get this time is 8 dark and melancholy songs of epic doom metal, with both harsh and clean vocals. And I guess that if you like bands like PARADISE LOST, MY DYING BRIDE and similar stuff, then this could be worth a try. It's absolutely not bad anyway. Some songs are even extra good, while some are not so exiting.
Some of these songs are between 7 to 8:40 minutes long, while some are 2:48 to 4 minutes.

DEATH WISHLIST: You Are Next
Area Pirata/Spaccio Dischi - CD, Cassette
DEATH WISHLIST hailing from Tuscany, Italy, and formed in 2023. The members comes from bands like TORNADO and The PEAWEES. This is their debut album, where they blend a mixture of 77 punk rock and high octane rock n roll. Among their influences are BACKYARD BABIES and The HELLACOPTERS, as well as SEX PISTOLS. So we talk about some kind of punk rock here.
I would not say that it's bad, but it's not that hot either. It's actually not as high octane and energetic as I want it to be, and the songs are not strong enough. But it's not impossible that there's more action when they play live. And this is just their first album, so it's not impossible that they will get better. Still a o.k. album, but not much else.
1 song is a little better though, and it's "I Hope You Die". More of that next time.

PETROLBREATH: Spread Your Wings And Die
Inverse Records - MCD, Digital EP
PETROLBREATH is a Finnish hard rock n roll band. These 4 songs are delivered with lots of energy. It's raw, dirty and thrashy, but with clean vocals. I'm pretty sure that MOTÖRHEAD are among their influences, but probably also some Scandinavian action rock. Fans of that should give this a try anyway, because all 4 songs sounds really good.

HÄSSLIG: Apex Predator
Sentient Ruin Laboratories on May 3 - LP, Cassette, Digital
Fuck what a noise terror! Yet it's music somehow.. Or maybe I should put it this way instead: Nothing wrong with the music, it's more the vocals that is the noise terror here. It's impossible to hear what the person is screaming about, as the vocals is drenched in effects. But I guess it's supposed to be that way according to the band, but it doesn't sound good according to me.
HÄSSLIG is a Spanish raw black metal/punk band, and this is their debut album. They also blend in elements of Oi! punk, hardcore and post-punk to their extreme cocktail.
For those who want something extreme.

HI/JACK: Everything You Know Is Yesterday
Blue Collar Records on May 3 - Formats unknown..
HI/JACK is a energetic rock n roll duo from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The band formed 10 years ago.
"Everything You Know Is Yesterday" contains a varied material, with everything from catchy rock hooks to attitude fueled hard rock styles. They begin a little heavier with "Hello". A o.k. song, but not the best on this album and a little too long. But after that the action begins, and the party is on. Now there's more energy and sweat. And most of these songs are around 1 and a half to 3 minutes, which is a perfect length for a rock song.
I can't mention any favorite songs, but most of these tracks are good anyway. All I have to complain about is that rap by Shle Berry in "Milwaukee". What was that good for? One of the less good songs on this album.

GOTHMINISTER: Pandemonium II: The Battle Of The Underworlds
AFM Records on May 3 - CD, LP, Digital
The music is almost like industrial metal, while the vocals is more melodic. And then they add symphonic and electronic elements on top of that. This gives us an interesting gothic sound that I really like. It's powerful and heavy, as well as energetic and raw. This album is full of great songs. And some of my favorites are the opening track, "Battle Of The Underworlds", and the last track, "We Come Alive". The last song was by the way chosen to compete in the Norwegian Melodi Grand Prix to represent Norway at Eurovision Song Contest 2024 (they achieved a 4th place).
Norwegian band GOTHMINISTER has existed since 1999.

FREEDOM: Tonight
Wild Kingdom - Digital Single
"Tonight" is taken from the upcoming album, "Stay Free!", which will be released on May 17.
FREEDOM is a band from Sweden, who call their music working class rock. The roots are in the 70s and 80s, and artists like Bruce Springsteen and TOM PETTY AND THE HEARTBREAKERS for example. Usually not my thing, but this band works for me. You can expect power chords and a catchy chorus, as well as lyrics about life when you listen to this band. And you should check them out.

CRAWL: Altar Of Disgust
Transcending Obscurity Records on May 3 - LP, CD, Cassette, Digital
After 6 years since their last full-length release, Swedish death metallers CRAWL show us all how it's supposed to be done. This is in other words pure old school death metal for all the money. But they also have the good taste to blend in some elements of crust punk, which is something that I really like. And isn't there a pinch of black metal now and then as well? Maybe not so pure after all, but still damn good.
These 11 tracks are like a powerful explosion, but in the shape of music. If you don't like this, then don't call yourself death metal. I'm pretty sure that the crust punks will like this too.

SAVAGE WIZDOM: Who's Laughing Now
Savage Wizdom - CD, Digital
This band hailing from Santa Fe, MA, USA, and formed in 2005. They play a fantasy based blend of melodic metal and power metal. It has taken some time between their albums - The first was released in 2007, the next in 2014, and now they have finally released the third album. But if that's what it takes to make a great album, then it's worth the wait.
And SAVAGE WIZDOM have made a powerful and very strong heavy/power metal album, so they can be really proud. Fans of legendary bands like HELLOWEEN, MANOWAR and IRON MAIDEN should be very happy to hear this masterpiece. Yes, the songs are actually that great. So discover this band now and tell all your friends about them.

RENEGADE ANGEL: Jokesters
Inverse Records - Digital EP
Finnish melodic heavy metal band RENEGADE ANGEL gives us a new 5-track EP. And what we get is the previously released single, "Jokesters", and the new song "Soldiers of Misfortune". After that they continue with a cover of MEAT LOAF's "Razor's Edge" and an alternative version of "Jokesters", before they end the whole thing with a Spanish version of "Soldiers of Misfortune".
The list of people who have been involved here is long, we have 6 different vocalists for example. There's no well-known names, so there's no reason to drop any names here.
Getting the same songs in different versions might not really be my thing, but luckily this is a really good band, so they are still worth to check out.

POLTERGEIST: Poltergeist
Wanikiya Records/Promotion - Digital Album
Some guys born between 1977 to 1990 have teamed up to form a band. They all comes from different musical backgrounds, so they have a few years of experience already. And I don't know much else than that, but a wild guess is that they are from Italy.
The music that these people has created is some kind of hard rock. But not the classic hard rock from the 70s and 80s, but more like something from the 90s or up to date I would say. It sounds o.k. anyway, and what else can I say?
6 tracks is what we get, which is more like a EP or mini album than a full-length album.
And no, this band has nothing to do with PØLTERGEIST, who comes from Canada and play something totally different.

The NIGHT TIMES: I'm Leaving You
Rogue Records - 7" Single, Digital
The NIGHT TIMES comes from Los Angeles, and has released 3 singles and 1 LP. They add a extra spice to their sound by using a Farfisa, and the music that they play is good old garage rock with raw and loud vocals.
The a-side gives us "I'm Leaving You", which is a up-tempo song full of energy. I really like it.
And on the b-side we get "Tell Me", which is not as wild as the a-side, but still very good.
Yes, this is something that you must check out if you like garage rock with that old sound from the 60s. No doubt about that.
roguerecords.bandcamp.com
The ON AND ONS: Looking Out Of A Mirror
Rogue Records - 7" Single, Digital
The a-side's "Looking Out Of A Mirror" is a very catchy and extremely good garage rock/power pop anthem. I really like it! You have to check it out!
On the b-side we find "Hey, What's Going On?", which is more mid-tempo and not as strong as the first side. I would not say that it's bad though, becuase this is also a really good song.
The ON AND ONS were formed in Sydney, Australia in 2015. Their key influences are 60s/70s rock. And they have really succeeded to catch the sound from that era. They have previously released 5 records through Citadel Records, and 1 single on Get-Hip.

The ORDER OF THE PRECIOUS BLOOD: Cheaper But Will Do
The Order Of The Precious Blood - Digital Single
These Canadian guys keep it short. Just 1 and a half minute. But sometimes that's enough.
The ORDER OF THE PRECIOUS BLOOD is a blackened hardcore/punk band hailing from St John's Newfoundland. "Cheaper But Will Do" is the first of 2 singles that will be released this spring. It sounds chaotic and intense, but yet it's music and not just noise. I have defintely heard worse than this in my life.
They blend elements of death metal and black metal with hardcore/punk, which gives them an extreme sound. It's very hard and heavy, yet full of wild energy.

PIRATE QUEEN: In The Search Of Eldorado
Despotz Records - Digital Single
Not long after the third single the female pirates released a 4th single, which means that they have now released more than half the album, "Ghosts" (out on May 3), as singles. But this is the last single. And now I got a good picture of what to expect from that album. But more about the album later..
"In The Search Of Eldorado" is a heavier piece, but not less epic because of that. Simply another good song, and not much else to say about that (album review soon, and then I tell you more).

VIPERWITCH: The Huntress
Viperwitch - Digital Single
With great songs like "She Wolves Of The Wasteland" and "Hellbound" already released as singles, there's of course high hope for the album, "Witch Hunt: The Road to Vengeance", which will be self released digitally on May 1, and followed by a CD release by Stormspell Records in the summer. But before that they has released a 4th single, "The Huntress".
And what can I say? They deliver another great song. This is true traditional heavy metal without a doubt. A must to check out and not much else to add there.

EMERALD EYE: Night Without Day
Emerald Eye - Digital Album
EMERALD EYE are from Kansas City, and 3 of the members also play in VANLADE, while 1 is a former member of that band, and 1 also play in ALSATIA. This is their full-length debut, where they deliver a pretty traditional and melodic kind of heavy metal, which also features elements of power metal, speed metal, progressive rock, 70s hard rock etc. It sounds extremely good. These men seems to have lots of experience, and know how it's supposed to be done.
Unfortunately the one who made the MP3s didn't seems to have that much experience. That person must have been drunk or high or something. Suddenly there's silence for several minutes after the song has ended, and 1 song is just cut off before it's over. But hopefully you won't have the same problems when you listen to this. Because you should really check out this band.
EMERALD EYE are looking for a label to release the album physical. And they have already started to work on material for their second album.

BURNING LEGION: En Sabah Nur
Burning Legion - Digital Album
American band BURNING LEGION began as a solo project in 2022, but has become an online/studio band, with members from California and Connecticut. They are a little hard to put in just 1 genre, as they draws influence from all aspects of metal. But most songs are some kind of extreme metal, sometimes with elements of groove or thrash metal for example. But that anything is possible when this band is making music is pretty clear when they suddenly play a soft and laidback ballad with female vocals.
The quality of the songs vary. But I would say that most of the songs are either good or at least o.k. anyway. They have nothing that's fantastic though.

ATOMIC KINGS: Atomic Kings
FireRock Music Group - CD
ATOMIC KINGS hailing from Phoenix, Arizona, and this is their debut album, which was released digitally only via Tonehouse Records in 2023. Now it's also available on CD via FireRock Music Group.
This band is described as a bluesy retro rock band, influenced by 70s acts like FREE, HUMBLE PIE, BAD COMPANY, LED ZEPPELIN and Robert Trower, but with a modern twist. So no, they are not doing anything new or unique here. But they are doing it really good, so there's really no reason to complain. Just listen to songs like "All I Want", "Holding On" and "Bloodline", and you should understand.
This album is a must for every fan of good old rock from the 70s.

ANGELS OF BABYLON: Aquarius
FireRock Music Group - Digital Album (CD in the summer)
This is the third album from this American melodic heavy metal band. They started in 2010, and among the 4 members are drummer Kenny "Rhino" Earl (ex-MANOWAR, HOLYHELL, Jack Starr's BURNING STARR). The original lineup also included Dave Ellefson (MEGADETH) and Ethan Brosh (BOSTON), but they have left the band. Since 2023 we find Alex Stephens and Kevin Burns on guitars, and Ned Meloni on bass. If I get it right, "Rhino" also handles the vocals.
Well, this is really good stuff and not much to talk about. Just listen to something like the opening track, "Aquarius", for example. Or why not "I Believe In You"? The last track, "Fallen Ones", is another song worth to mention. Nothing here is bad though.

WAR GRAVE: War Grave
War Grave on April 26 - MCD, Digital
WAR GRAVE is a heavy metal band from the UK, and this seems to be their debut EP, where they deliver 5 powerful tracks in the traditional school, with elements of both thrash and power metal. It's like they have taken the best ingredients from the history of metal, and the result is something that will knock you off the chair. Yes, these 5 tracks are pretty good stuff, so you should really check it out.

The LOYAL CHEATERS is an Italian/German action rock band, formed in 2020. The debut album, "Long Run... All Dead!", was released in February 2022, and is now followed by their second album, "And All Hell Broke Loose".
This high energy rockers blend hard rock, early glam rock and pop punk from the late 70s with good old punk rock and power pop. The opening track, the title track, is absolutely action rock. But many of the other songs here sounds more like punk rock to me. There's simply a little bit of both here, and it all sounds really good to me. So if you want some action and a really good party album, then you should really give this a try.

DARKNESS: Blood On Canvas
Massacre Records on April 26 - CD, LP, Digital
DARKNESS are back. And no, I don't talk about UK glam rockers The DARKNESS, but the German thrash band.
This band released a few cassettes and records between 1986-1989. Since 2005 they has released some more records now and then.
Their new album, "Blood On Canvas", is said to be their most ferocious album to date. The songs are more aggressive and heavier than anything else in their discography. It's a uncompromising and fast kind of thrash metal in the old school that we get here, and I really like what I hear. Fans of something like KREATOR should give this a try, becuase I think you will like this a lot. Well, any fan of good old thrash should enjoy this.

BARON: Beneath The Blazing Abyss

Finnish band BARON play a heavier kind of death metal, with influences of doom metal. But that doesn't mean that it's slow and boring, as there's also some really fast parts here and there as well. It's crushing and powerful, mainly in the old school.
They pass on the legacy of the Finnish death metal scene, and they do it really good. So this is something that you should check out of course.
The last track was totally useless though.

ATTIC THEORY: What We Fear The Most
ThunderGun Records on April 26 - LP, CD, Digital
The first time I heard this album, it was like a rock band playing pop. But luckily they don't have a singer who is crying and whining to a pre-produced sound that everybody use. No, this band is obviously playing on real instruments, and the singer is more of a rock voice than a silly pop singer. So I guess there's something positive at least.
I guess that modern alternative rock is the genre that this band belongs to, and they actually succeed to be heavy once in a while, so it's far away from hopeless anyway. If the songs could have been more fun to listen to as well, then it could have been much better. As it is now, it's just o.k. background music.
This is ATTIC THEORY's debut album, and they're based in Liverpool, UK.

HION MARTELL: Lightning In A Bottle
Hion Martell - CD, LP, Digital
From a village called Ljusdal, Sweden comes HION MARTELL, who formed in 1992. These veterans has never been as popular as some other Swedish rock n roll bands, like The REFRESHMENTS or The BOPPERS, but they are not worse because of that. They play mainly a pretty straight kind of rock, and are more raw than those other bands that I mentioned. The songs are 3-4 minutes, so there's no unnecessary adventures. Once in a while they have a song that is a little different though, so it's not the same thing all the way. A good collection of songs.
This should be something for fans of CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL and ROLLING STONES.

Well, there's still life in these old men. And what they have to offer is a varied album. Sometimes it's more energy and more catchy, other times very melodic, and sometimes something in-between. 13 tracks might be a little too much at once, but most of these songs are good or at least o.k. Once in a while there's even something that is a little extra good as well. And sure, 1 or 2 of these songs might not really be my thing, but that's hardly anything unusual, and nothing to cry about.

THOU: I Feel Nothing When You Cry
Sacred Bones - Digital Single
A new album, "Umbilical", will be released on May 31. This is the lead single.
It seems like these political sludge metallers have been called everything from anarchists, criminals and foreign meddlers to lunatics, egoists and passion maximizers etc. So this is obviously not a band for everyone. But if we focus on the music here, then I can tell you that it's very heavy, but with a raw power, as it's also aggressive. Hardly made to be nice, but a pretty o.k. song anyway. Not much else though.

Francesco is author and co-author of the songs, plays both bass and guitars. Paolo take care of arrangement and writing of the drum tracks. On vocals we find Elle Noir.
This is the first single from their upcoming album, "Good 'n' Evil", which will be out on May 31. And this sounds promising. I would say that it's some kind of hard rock in the alternative league. Melodic and heavy. I guess I need to hear some more before I can describe them better than that..

With his own band MATNEY it's Southern rock all the way. Influences comes from his musical heroes, as it's his farm life, faith and the demons of his past. And this should be something for fans of ZZ TOP and LYNYRD SKYNYRD. Catchy and bluesy Southern rock in the old tradition, and very American.
Well, there's some good songs here, so it could be worth a try if you're into this kind of stuff. No doubt about that.

ATLANTIS DRIVE: Way Back When
Pride & Joy Music - Digital Single
This brand new multinational band is the brainchild of German guitarist Markus Pfeffer (BARNABAS SKY, LAZARUS DREAM). The goal is to celebrate and revive the melodic rock sound of the 80s, which he do together with vocalist Mark Boals (RING OF FIRE, SHINING BLACK, ex-Yngwie Malmsteen's RISING FORCE), French keyboardist Jorris Guilbaud (DEVOID, HEART LINE) and drummer Markus Kullmann (Glenn Hughes, SINNER, VOODOO CIRCLE).
"Way Back When" is the first single from their upcoming, self titled, debut album, which will be released on June 16. What you can expect is keyboards, a catchy chorus and bombastic vocal arrangements. Simply a melodic rock song in the old tradition. And it sounds good, so it could definitely be worth a try if you like that.

TYGERS OF PAN TANG: Live Blood
Mighty Music on April 26 - CD, 2LP, Digital
This recording was made at The Patriot in Wales, UK during the summer of 2023. The band deliver songs from their whole career. And no matter if it's old or new material, it's just as good. You should really check it out, because this is a damn good live album from these British hard rock/heavy metal veterans.
The songs seems to get some extra energy when they play live, which you can hear on this album. And in case you have not heard this band before, then this will work perfect as an introduction. The vinyl edition will include 3 exclusive bonus tracks.
As you might know already, TYGERS OF PAN TANG formed in 1978 already. Members have come and left through the years, and they have not always been an active band. The only original member that is left in the band is guitarist Robb Weir. He is joined by long-serving members Jack Meille (vocals) and Craig Ellis (drums), as well as the 2 latest recruits guitarist Francesco Marras and bass player Huw Holding.

CROCELL: Search Of Solace
Emanzipation Productions - Digital Single
After a 6-year break, Danish death metallers CROCELL will return with a new album, "Search Of Solace", later this year. And what we have here is a first taste of what to expect from that record. This song is filled with both heavy riffs and blast beats. But there's also guitar harmonies and an organ in this song.
This might not be the best death metal that I have heard, but not the worst either (maybe I just have to listen some more?). It sounds really heavy and brutal anyway. So if that's something that you like, then give these guys a try.

Scandinavian doom metallers ALTAR OF OBLIVION has released the opening track of their upcoming 4th album as a single. The album will be released later this year, and it will be a concept album.
It takes about a minute before there's any vocals in this song, but what they have created is something really good. Traditional and epic doom just as it's supposed to be. No growl or elements of extreme metal here. You should really check this out if you like stuff like CANDLEMASS and similar.
That album can be really interesting to hear..

PIRATE QUEEN: Santa Lucia
Despotz Records - Digital Single
Oh, finally something new with PIRATE QUEEN. Just another single, but better than nothing. I would really like to hear that album now. But it will be released on May 3, so it's just a few weeks away.
Anyway.. As you might have heard, this is the first all-female pirate metal band from the Bermuda Triangle. And their previous singles have definitely been pirate metal. But this song sounds almost like symphonic power metal instead, which works too. It might not be such a good anthem as their first single was, but it's absolutely not bad anyway.

"A Throne Of Melancholy" is taken from the band's 10th studio album, "Remains Of A Dead World", which will be out soon. That album will be very interesting to hear.

LEACH: New Model Of Disbelief
Leach on April 19 - CD, LP, Digital
Swedish metal band LEACH (from my hometown Borås) have been around for a few years already, and have released 3 full-length albums and 1 EP. Their sound is a mix of the legendary Gothenburg sound and the aggressiveness of the hardcore from northern Sweden, with a pinch of old school death metal from Stockholm. That gives them a groovy, blood thirsty and melodic sound, while they at the same time are stone hard.
Well, these guys seems to know how it's supposed to be done, because this album is really strong. There's not 1 single weak moment here, and I think many different kinds of metal heads could enjoy this.

Lee Aaron: Tattoo Me

Canadian rock queen Lee Aaron has released 18 albums since the 80s, but she have never done a full covers album before. So now it was time to change that and take a nostalgic trip and pay homage to her influences. And her taste is wide. It's everything from Nina Simone to Alice Cooper, via LED ZEPPELIN and HEART, on to HOLE and Elton John, as well as FLEETWOOD MAC and The UNDERTONES.
We get a wild mixture of good and bad songs here. But everybody has different taste and songs that they like. Lee and her band is still doing a good job, nobody can complain about that anyway. Lee have always been a diverse singer, and she really prove that she can still deliver.
Some of the songs that I like here are "Tattoo", "Even It Up", "Is It My Body" and "Teenage Kicks".

DRUNKEN SWALLOWS: Im Namen Des Wahnsinns
Metalville Records on April 19 - CD
Disgusting name. And even though they have a English name of the band, all their lyrics are in German.
This is the 6th album from DRUNKEN SWALLOWS, which also marks the band's 15th anniversary. They play a pretty catchy and sing-along friendly kind of punk rock, and the result is absolutley not bad at all. This is something that you should check out if you like more kind punk rock, because it's often melodic.
Since the last album they have changed bassist. It's also said that they have returned to their early days on this album.

LEGIONS OF THE NIGHT: Another Devil
Pride & Joy Music - Digital Single
German power metal band LEGIONS OF THE NIGHT has released the first single from their third album, "Darkness", which will be released on July 12. And this is a darker kind of power metal, but definitely not powerless. It sounds good, and the chorus is even better. Could absolutely be worth a try if you like good old power metal.

KNIGHTS OF THE REALM: Killer Machine
Playground Music - Digital Single
Swedish heavy metal band KNIGHTS OF THE REALM will release their second album, "Darker Than Leather", on May 24. "Killer Machine" is the first single, which is something that every fan of true heavy metal must check out. It's a very powerful and good song that they have made, so I really look forward to hear some more soon.
The band features Magnus "MegaloMangan" Henriksson (ECLIPSE), Lars "The Hammer" Sköld (TIAMAT), Marcus "Mean Machine" von Boisman (TANK), and the newest addition, Mats "Spellbinder" Rydström (AVATARIUM, ABRAMIS BRAMA). These gentlemen have many years of experience, and know their heavy metal. If you have not discovered their debut album yet, it's time that you do that.

HAND ON HEART: Agony
Hand On Heart - Digital Single
Italian hard rock band HAND ON HEART has released their 7th single, "Agony", taken from their upcoming debut album, "Space" (not out yet as far as I know). It's an emotional and very good song on the border to heavy metal. You should really check it out. And I don't have much else to say..
The band formed in 2017, and consist of experienced musicians who has been playing since the 80s.

Filippa Nässil: San Francisco (Swedish version)
Despotz Records - Digital Single
Filippa Nässil from Swedish hard rock n roll band THUNDERMOTHER is going on a little solo adventure, and this is the first single. An album, "American Diaries", will be released in the fall. The album will contain both English and Swedish versions of all the tracks on the album.
I expected blues, as that's what they said it was going to be. But what do I get? This sounds more like some silly pop. And that she decided to sing is Swedish doesn't really help. No, this wasn't my thing at all. But hopefully the rest of the material isn't as silly as this song was to me. She has a good voice for this kind of music though.

EARTHBLOOD: Witchburner
Inverse Records on April 18 - Digital EP
Finnish sludge/doom metal band EARTHBLOOD formed in the spring of 2023, and released their debut EP, "Primal Fury", about half a year ago. But this is productive guys, so now the second EP, "Witchburner", is already here.
These 4 guys fusing elements of dirty and gritty sludge with the fast tempos and riffing of genres such as thrash and death metal. They describe their wall of sound as "thunder ape metal". These 3 tracks are very heavy, but definitely not slow and boring. This is actually pretty fast for being sludge/doom. But I like that. It keeps me awake. Which you should see as something positive.

ARHAT: Nasha Khoda Nevpynna
Arhat - Digital Single
Ukrainian groove/death metallers ARHAT are back with a new single, which is taken from the new album, "Secrets Of Ancient Gods", which will be released on May 31. This song is hard and brutal, but I think I hear something symphonic there in the background as well? But anyway, they have choosen to sing (or rather growl) in their own language this time, and it sounds o.k. to me.
I don't really know what else I should say about this song, as it's a little hard to describe. But it's worth checking out anyway.

ARCHITECTS: Curse
Eptaph Records - Digital Single
British band ARCHITECTS gives us a fat dose of metalcore. They blend the brutal with the melodic, and succeed to make perfect harmony. What you can expect is both blast beats and heavy guitars. But also a singer who switches between aggressive verses and a melodic chorus. This is actually not bad at all.
ARCHITECTS will be touring extensively in Europe, kicking things off with a high-profile support slot for METALLICA in May and June. The band will then hit major festivals like Graspop (Belgium), Summer Breeze (Germany) and Bloodstock (UK).

MAVERICK: Sweet Surrender
Metalapolis Records - Digital Single
Belfast hard rockers MAVERICK gives us a taste of their upcoming album, "Silver Tongue", which will be released on June 21. It's a melodic and emotional song, but with heavy guitars. It sounds both 80s and modern at the same time somehow. I like it. This is a band that you really should check out. And that's all I have to say..

NIGHT PLEASURE HOTEL: Just This Once
Art Of Melody Music/Burning Minds Music Group - Digital Single
"Just This Once" is the first single from NIGHT PLEASURE HOTEL's upcoming debut album, "Portraits", which will be released on May 31. But this is not a new band, as it was founded a decade ago under the name Alex Mari & The LOVERS. After a few line up changes, they are now Alex Mari (MICHELE LUPPI BAND, BAROCK PROJECT, OPHIURA) on vocals, Gianluca Pisana on drums and backing vocals, and Sebastiano Barbirato on guitar and backing vocals.
What this trio deliver is classic American AOR for fans of SURVIVOR, FOREIGNER, PRISM and TOTO. It sounds just like it should, so there's not much to complain about. But not really that much else to say either. So just let the music do the talking instead, because this is really good and promising.

A NEVERENDING JOHN'S DREAM: Coming Back To Paradise
Pride & Joy Music on April 19 - CD
Behind the strange name A NEVERENDING JOHN'S DREAM we find a Spanish band who play melodic "hard" rock. The group was formed in Barcelona in 2022, and this is their debut album, which is described as a melodic hard n heavy album with a late 80s/early 90s feel, but with an up to date production.
This sounds really good. I can't hear 1 single bad song among these 12 tracks, and that's really strong. So all fans of melodic rock and hard rock should really give this band a try, because I'm very sure that you will like what you hear.
And the name of the band then.. Well, it's a bit philosophic - The creation of music has no end (Neverending), and this fact is like a dream to the band's founder Joan M. Heredia (drums, vocals and composer).

ALICATE: Heaven Tonight
Pride & Joy Music on April 19 - CD
ALICATE is a Swedish band that was formed in the late 80s. They released a 7" single, "The End/Too Shy To Take It", and toured in Sweden and Finland. They also supported Ian Gillan on his "Toolbox Tour" in 1992. During the mid-90s the band was put on ice.
In 2006 the band reunited, and released an album, "World Of Anger", in 2009. It was followed by 3 more albums - "Free Falling" (2013), "Unforgiven To Be Forgiven" (2018) and "Butterfly" (2022) - and a live EP, "Live At Forum".
The first song on their new album sounds like VAN HALEN when Sammy Hagar took over the microphone. Other songs sounds more like classic melodic rock/AOR from the 80s. Mainly a pretty good material and some really strong songs, so you should give them a try. Not much else to say..

MÆRE: ...and The Universe Keeps Silent
Transcending Obscurity Records on April 19 - CD, Cassette, Digital
German trio MÆRE presents their debut album, which is a dark death metal story that doesn't really sound like anything else. This is the kind of album that can make you feel that it's dangerous stuff you're listening to. Because it's like the music is haunting your soul. Luckily that's just a feeling though.
It's experimental and progressive, almost like a more extreme VOIVOD (in lack of anything else to compare with). But is it any good then? Not really. It goes in and out, and is soon forgotten.

RAVAGE: Spider On The World
Thrash With Power Records on April 19 - LP, Digital
From Boston, Massachusetts comes this traditional heavy metal band. "Spider On The World" is their first album with brand new material since "The End Of The World", which was released by Metal Blade Records in 2009.
RAVAGE has existed since the mid-90s, and weave together elements of melodic heavy metal, speed metal, power metal and thrash metal. It follows in the same foot steps as their previous records, so it's most of all classic heavy metal that we get here, but with a modern production. Fans of legendary bands like JUDAS PRIEST and IRON MAIDEN should be interested in this album.

GUENNA: Peak Of Jin'Arrah
The Sign Records on April 19 - LP, Digital
This is the debut album from this southern Swedish band, where they presents an interesting mixture of fuzz, stoner, progressive and heavy rock. Add vocal harmonies to that, and you get something that Nick Oliveri (STÖNER, KYUSS, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, MONDO GENERATOR, The DWARVES etc) has described as "if YES played heavy stoner music". Yes, this is something that will fit perfect for both heavy rockers and fans of progressive rock. And it also happens to be really good.
In "Dark Sescent" we also get some female vocals from Elin Pålsson, which spice up the song a little (not that there's any lack of spices in any of these songs).
GUENNA has previously released a self titled EP in March 2020, just a few months after the band was formed.

BLAZING ETERNITY: A Certain End Of Everything
Mighty Music on April 19 - LP, CD, Digital
This is the first new BLAZING ETERNITY album in over 2 decades. And what an album it is!
The band was formed in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1993. They released 2 demos (in 1996 and 1998) before they got signed, and 2 albums was released through Prophecy Productions (in 2000 and 2003). Since 2004 there have been no more activity, except for 4 shows in Denmark and Germany in 2011-2012.
But in 2018 the group secretly started to work on new material. And the reason why it has taken so long is the death of vocalist Peter Mesnickow's long-time wife Lilja, and the death of live keyboardist Jens Hansen.
Well, now the album is finally ready to be released anyway. And I can tell you that it has been worth the wait, because this is a great album. It's said to have the band's well-known atmosphere and fingerprint, which is a melancholic, epic and atmospheric doom/gothic metal mix with weeping guitars and harsh vocals. It's dark and melancholy with lyrics dealing with death, depression and personal tragedies. Yet it's beautiful and far away from hopeless.

KICKIN VALENTINA: Star Spangled Fist Fight
Mighty Music on April 19 - LP, CD, Digital
This reminds me of how good BACKYARD BABIES used to be (and maybe they still are, but it has been quiet for a while now). Not that these Americans sounds exactly like them, but it's something similar at least, and they have the same punky street attitude. They also kicks ass just like the Swedes used to do in the late 90s/early 2000s.
KICKIN VALENTINA are described as unapologetic rock n roll. But I would say that it's an energetic mix of hard rock and sleaze rock that we get. Fans of American bands like GUNS N' ROSES, MÖTLEY CRÜE and SKID ROW should absolutely give this a chance.
"Star Spangled Fist Fight" is the 4th full-length from this band, which was formed in 2013.

Paul Di'Anno's WARHORSE: Stop The War
BraveWords Records - Digital EP
Paul Di'Anno's WARHORSE - the new band with former IRON MAIDEN singer Paul Di'Anno - has released a 3-track EP in advance of its upcoming full-length debut, which will be released later this year. And those who think that it will sound like early IRON MAIDEN will probably be dissapointed. It's still heavy metal, but something more fresh. And Paul have a different voice nowadays than he had when he was a young man, but he can still sing with a powerful voice. No doubt about that.
The title track is a really good NWOBHM anthem. "The Doubt Within" is a heavier thing, with a more melodic part - Also very good. "Warhorse" is more of that good old heavy metal, another anthem.
Yes, this is very good stuff, and very promising for that album, which I look forward to hear.

The STREETWALKIN' CHEETAHS: Call The Dogs
Heavy Medication Records - 10" EP, Digital
This punk rock band was formed in Los Angeles in 1995, so they are veterans. The name of the band is of course taken from the opening line of the IGGY AND THE STOOGES classic "Search & Destroy". They released a few records between 1996 to 2006. And after a hiatus, they returned in 2014.
"Call The Dogs" is the first of 2 releases with The STREETWALKIN' CHEETAHS that Heavy Medication Records will release this year (but it seems like another EP will be released simultaneously as this via Madrid's Ghost Highway Recordings).
On this EP we get 4 tracks of 70s punk rock, which almost sounds more like primitive rock n roll actually. So they are not the fastest or loudest punk rock band. But they are far away from slow and boring. This sounds good. And among the best tracks here are "Call The Dogs" and "80's Baby", which have some more energy.

NECROART: The Highest Law
Nova Era Records - CD, Digital
NECROART was founded in 1999 with the idea to mix Swedish death metal, some black metal and a touch of dark metal. They have already released a few records and had several changes in the line up, so this is an experienced band. This album was released in May 2023.
And what they deliver is a dark, and sometimes atmospheric, kind of death and black metal mixture. Some songs are pure dark metal. Maybe not so uplifting, but I don't think it's so depressive either. As you probably can understand, this is an album with different moods. Sometimes hard and heavy, sometimes more silent. It has both good and less good moments, but nothing that makes me extra happy.

LYPSWITCH: World Of Sin
Eonian Records - CD
LYPSWITCH was originally formed in Orlando, Florida in 1987, but moved to Hollywood in April 1988, and became another one of all the bands who tried to make it on the local scene. They played on all the clubs along Sunset Strip, and seemed to get plenty of attention in the press. They also got some airplay on KNAC Pure Rock 105.5 FM with their first single, "Rattlesnake Skin", in late 1989. But all they released was some demos, and in the late summer of 1991 the band split up.
That was not the end though. In 1999 their first website was built, and their songs have also been included on some compilations. In 2018 they recorded and released the "30 Years" CD all by themselves. And this new CD, "World Of Sin", is actually a remastered version of "30 Years", but with the addition of 3 newly recorded songs and all-new art and booklet.
There's as much as 17 tracks on this album. As it's old songs, it sounds very old school. We talk about sleaze rock/hair metal for all the money. And they seems to have that important extra thing that makes them more interesting, because these songs are absolutely not bad at all. Fans of legends like MÖTLEY CRÜE and GUNS N' ROSES should get this CD at once.

HELL RIDERS: Cartomancer
Wanikiya Records - Digital Single
HELL RIDERS was formed in Porlezza, Como province, Italy in January 2018. Already in December the same year they signed to Volcano Records and entered the studio to record their first album. New members arrived and the album, "First Race", is released on November 1, 2019. They soon started to work on their second album and signed with Wanikiya Records/Promotion. And while we wait for that album, they has released this song as a single.
HELL RIDERS play classic heavy metal and doesn't add anything new to the genre. It's in other words pretty old school, just like it should be. This song might not be an anthem or a future classic, but it sure ain't bad anyway.

CORNERS OF SANCTUARY: Hunter Prey
SODEH Records - Digital Single
Philadelphia heavy metal band CORNERS OF SANCTUARY are back with a new single, taken from their new extended EP, "Metal Up", which is out now.
This band has been active for 13 years now, and it seems like this is their 42nd release. They have in other words released a few albums, EPs and lots of singles through the years. I would describe their sound as traditional and American. Not always the most interesting to listen to, but lately they have surprised me by suddenly being a little better than before.
CORNERS OF SANCTUARY continues with their special sound, and this song sounds like so many others of their songs, even if it has its own twist somehow. It sounds good anyway. No doubt about that.
The band is currently working on their next full-length album, "Vengeance Of The Fallen".

STRÖM: En Orkan På Vår Sida
Black Lodge Records on April 19 - CD, LP, Digital
When the self titled debut album from this Swedish singing hard rocking band was released in 2022, there were already some talk about them. And what they delivered was an extremely good album with a big dose of AC/DC. And now they will release their second album, which is also really good and a natural follow up to the debut. So in other words still a lot of AC/DC, but also some 70s KISS and some elements of QUEEN.
I would say that the strongest moments this time are the title track, "Blodsprängda Ögon", "Knoga För Jämnan" and "Småland". But the other songs are good too, so this is an album that I really can recomend you to check out.
Too bad that concert tickets are so damn expensive nowadays, because I think this band is as best live, and I would really like to see them on a stage not too far away from where I live.

QUANTUM: Down The Mountainside
Black Lodge Records on April 19 - CD, LP, Digital
QUANTUM is a progressive rock/metal band from Sweden, and their music goes in all directions. Suddenly there's a part that sounds like classical music or a part that sounds like jazz. As the press release says: "QUANTUM's music is characterized by exciting grooves, hypnotizing harmony, soaring vocals and a wide dynamic range - with melody and a sense of propulsion always being at the forefront." Their influences are wide, but mainly other bands who play progressive rock or metal, both old and modern. And if you know what I'm talking about, then you probably know what this band sounds like.
Yes, these guys can really play, but even if it's experimental, they can also make something that actually sounds like songs. So this is not just a musical adventure, but something that even I can enjoy. Many songs here are actually fantastic. Who would think that I would say that about a progressive band?
The album features guitar solos from Richard Henshall and Tom MacLean from the band HAKEN.
QUANTUM formed in 2016. They have previously released a digital EP, "The Next Breath of Air", in 2020.

LOCH VOSTOK: Opus Ferox II - Mark Of The Beast
ViciSolum Productions on April 19 - CD, LP
Swedish progressive metal band LOCH VOSTOK are back with a new album. And this is the second album in the "Opus Ferox" trilogy, where they take everything a step further. As usual they balancing between the harsh and melodic with their dynamic songs. I would almost say that this is more majestic than adventurous. And that they almost have a normal song structure. But there is lots of progressive elements too of course.
There's no need to go on any longer journey, with songs that last for 10-15 minutes. No, LOCH VOSTOK keep it short with songs that are 3:41 to 5:37 minutes. 1 song is 7:17 minutes, but that's o.k. in this case.
This is actually a progressive band that is easy to like, simply because they have lots of good songs. I would guess that not just fans of progressive metal could like this.
The band was born in 2000, and have previously released 8 albums. Among the members are people who play or have played with acts like CARNAL FORGE, ONE HOUR HELL, F.K.Ü., The MURDER OF MY SWEET and ANIMA MORTE.

Bad Omen Records on April 12 - Split 7" single, Digital
Heavy metal bands WYTCH HAZEL and PHANTOM SPELL has teamed up for a split single on 7" vinyl.
"Ride On" by WYTCH HAZEL is a excellent anthem. 70s heavy metal when it's as best. This is something that every fan of old British bands must check out.
On the other side we can find "Palantíri" by PHANTOM SPELL, which is also really good. But it's like the a-side has stolen the whole cake, and there are only crumbs left for the b-side.
Both bands are from England. WYTCH HAZEL has released 4 albums since 2016, and PHANTOM SPELL released their debut LP in 2022.

SPELL/PØLTERGEIST: A Waxing Moon Over Babylon/Fall To Ruin
Bad Omen Records on April 12 - Split 7" single, Digital
2 Canadian bands has joined forces for a odd split single on vinyl.
SPELL are doing a cover of The DEVIL'S BLOOD (if you remember them?). It's a song from the first 7" with the Dutch occult rockers. So it's a darker kind of heavy metal/rock you could say. A pretty laidback song, but yet very good.
PØLTERGEIST play one of their own songs. I guess that this could be described as something like post rock. The press release says that it's inspired by the gothic rock and 4AD indie of the 80s, as well as the deathless glory of the NWOBHM. It succeeds to be dark and catchy at the same time, but sounds more like a 80s pop song than rock. It's not bad though.

MOONSPELL: Under The Moonspell (The Early Years Collection)
Alma Mater Records on April 20 - 3LP Box Set
What we have here is a early years collection that includes the "Under The Moonspell" LP (1994) and the demo "Anno Satanæ" (1993), as well as "Under Satanæ", which (if I get it right) is re-recordings of the LP and the demo made in 2007.
MOONSPELL hailing from Portugal, and formed in the early 90s. This band didn't become legandary because of beautiful love songs. Fact is that I don't really know why they have become legendary. Their music is some kind of dark death/black metal I suppose, but in the alternative class as they have created their own sound. It sounds very ambitious for being early recordings from a young band. There's many different layers and various moods in this band's music, like both eastern and symphonic elements for example. And it would surprise me if bands like CELTIC FROST and BATHORY were not among their influences. But there's so much more than just that here. You just have to hear it to get what they are doing. I can't promise that you're going to get it anyway though.
These 3 albums are also available as seperate albums on both CD and LP (maybe digital as well?).
And yes, MOONSPELL are still active after all these years.

BLOODBOUND: The Tales Of Nosferatu - Two Decades Of Blood (2004 - 2024)
AFM Records on April 19 - CD/Blu-ray, 2LP, Digital
Swedish power metal band BLOODBOUND celebrates their 20th anniversary with the release of a live album, recorded at Masters Of Rock. The Blu-ray also includes excerpts from a past Japan performance and all the music videos released to date.
We get 13 tracks taken from 10 studio albums. And it sounds like it was a great and explosive show that they did. Fantastic songs all the way. Not a single weak moment. The songs are majestic and powerful with big choruses, but without being too much. It would have been cool to see this band live. But with today's sick ticket prices, I can just forget that it's going to happen.
This should become one of the big classic live albums in the power metal scene. Fans of bands like HAMMERFALL, POWERWOLF and SABATON must check this out!

BALANCE OF POWER: Fresh From The Abyss
Massacre Records on April 19 - CD, LP, Digital
It seems to be something like 2 decades since the British band BALANCE OF POWER released their last studio album, "Heathen Machine". But now they are back with a new album and a new line up. Founding members Tony Ritchie (bass) and Lionel Hicks (drums) are joined by the band's new lead vocalist Hazel Jade, as well as guitarists Chris Young and Adam Wardle, who have since taken over the reins from guitarists Chris Masimore and Stoney Wagner, with whom the band worked on and recorded this album.
Hard rock and heavy metal is what's on the menu when this band invites you for a dance. Their sound is pretty fresh but powerful, and it's often heavy, but yet melodic. Most of these songs are really good stuff, so you should absolutely check them out. And I don't have much else to add there..

EXTINCT: Incitement Of Violence
MDD Records on April 18 - CD
EXTINCT formed in 2003, and comes from Germany. They play thrash metal with a pinch of death/thrash, and this is their second full-length album.
If you want old school kick ass thrash metal, then look no further - EXTINCT is the band for you my friend! Influences comes from both German and American bands from the 80s - Think KREATOR, SLAYER, EXODUS and TESTAMENT for example. In other words really good stuff and nothing to complain about. What else is there to say?
They seems to like intros a lot, as there's as much as 3 of them on this album.

BATTLECREEK: Maze Of The Mind
MDD Records on April 11 - CD
This is the third album from these German thrashers, who formed in 2004. But it doesn't really sound German, but more American instead.
BATTLECREEK has created something that sounds really old school. Like it could have been a recording from the 80s. I think of METALLICA, SLAYER and ANTHRAX for example (among many others) when I hear this, so the Bay Area influences are defintely there. So fans of that should definitely check this out, because it sounds really good.
Germany seems to have lots of great thrash bands nowadays..

GLYPH: Honor. Power. Glory.
Black Note Music on April 12 - Digital Album
What we get from this band is a majestic kind of European power metal, with symphonic elements. Most songs here are more or less anthems with big choruses to sing-along to. In other words a very strong material, and an album that you just can't live without.
And like it wasn't ambitious enough already, it's also a concept album.
GLYPH is a Canadian band, and this is their debut album. But you can really hear that this is not their first band. These men have been lurking around in the North American heavy metal underground for 15 years with bands like GATEKEEPER, RAVENOUS, GREYHAWK and SKELETOR, among many others.
It seems like this is just released digitally, which is a shame. I think that many people would like a physical copy of this album. But maybe in the future, when the big labels wake up?

UPPLOPPET: Road Runner
The Sign Records on April 12 - LP, Digital
I really like action rock, and that's what this Swedish band play. It's full of adrenaline and testosterone. Energetic garage punk rock that makes it hard to sit still. If you're a fan of bands like The HELLACOPTERS, GLUCIFER and similar stuff, then you have to check this out. You should not be dissapointed.
I always think that this could be perfect party music, and it probably is. But do I listen to any action rock when I drink? Strangely enough not. That should not stop you from trying it though (I don't drink alcohol that often anyway nowadays).
"Road Runner" is the debut album from this Gothenburg band. They burn off 10 tracks in less than half an hour, and there's no room for tragic ballads. Just pure high octane rock when it's as best.
The group have previously recorded several EPs in their rehearsal room.

SULPHUR AND MERCURY is a classic heavy and doom metal band from Italy, with members from MISERY INDEX, SPIRITUAL FRONT, HOUR OF PENANCE and GRIEFBRINGER. The group came together in 2021, and "Alchemia Prophetica" is their debut EP, where we get 6 tracks of dark and occult heavy/doom metal from the 80s. They have their own sound somehow, but it sounds really good, so it could absolutely be worth checking out if you like it dark and heavy.

Rydholm Säfsund: Kaleidoscope
GodisPåScen/Pride & Joy Music on April 12 - CD, Digital
I get a feeling that I should not like this kind of music. Because these guys mix their AOR/West Coast rock with lots of funk and soul music. But that just makes it more catchy, so how can you not like this? The vocals is soulful and they also have much trumpets, and their songs are really good.
This is the brainchild of the 2 Swedish AOR/ West Coast musicians Anders Rydholm (bass, rhythm guitars, keyboards - ART OF ILLUSION, GRAND ILLUSION) and Lars Säfsund (vocals - WORK OF ART, ART OF ILLUSION), and this is their full-length debut. Among the guests are people like Tim Pierce (guitars), Robert Säll (guitars), Matt Bissonette (bass), Chuck Findley (trumpet) and Wojtek Goral (sax), among others.
Absolutely worth checking out, in case you didn't get that.

REPLICANT: Infinite Mortality
Transcending Obscurity Records on April 12 - CD, Cassette, Digital
This band is like an uncontrollable force sweeping forward. You never know what to expect here, as it goes in all directions. They definitely have found their own identity, and play with stuff like synths, high-frequency transmissions and void channels. But most of all it's a progressive and dissonant kind of death metal that they perform. And they're constantly on fire and ready for a new challenge.
This is obviously not something for those who want straight songs. But those who like it a little more advanced could probably enjoy this.

FREDDY AND THE PHANTOMS: Heathen Gospels
Target Records on April 12 - LP, Digital
This band seems to play a more laidback kind of rock. It sounds American, like some kind of country rock actually. But suddenly there can be a more bluesy thing or even some desert rock, and then there's more action. Most songs sounds good to me, even if there's some weaker moments too. Could be something for those of you who are into Americana.
"Heathen Gospels" is the 6th studio album from this Danish band. It's said to be their most fully-toned Americana record to date. And the lyrics focuses on big personal questions such as freedom, spirituality, betrayal and the eternal desire for power, money and carnal desires.

JUNKYARD DRIVE: Look At Me Now
Mighty Music on April 12 - LP, CD, Digital
Danish hard rockers JUNKYARD DRIVE have been active since 2014, and "Look At Me Now" is their 4th album.
Full of energy they deliver high octane rock, and it sounds o.k., even if there's some weaker moments as well. But I would not say that everything is hopeless here. The opening with "Somewhere To Hide", "Shoot From The Hip" and "Tearaway" is probably the strongest part of the album. After that it's scattered showers between good and less good tracks. It's almost like they lose some power after those 3 first tracks, and some elements are almost on the border to pop or soft rock, which is absolutely not what I want from this band.
Since the last album, the band has recruited 2 new guitarists: Oliver Hartmann and Kristoffer Kristensen.

ÆLLEVILD: Hele Dagen Lang
Target Records on April 12 - LP, Digital
There's not much electric guitars on this album, but some at least. This Danish folk music band seems to prefer the old traditional instruments, and they sing in Danish. It sounds very much like Swedish folk music. But then Denamrk is not so far away from Sweden.
What ÆLLEVILD have done here is a Nordic folk concept album, targeted at children, with grown-ups in mind too. The album includes contributions from several talented musicians from the Danish folk and metal scenes, including members from HEILUNG, HULDRE, ELDJUDNIR, AUROQ etc. The songs were written by both children and adults. Some are new, others are old songs with new music or old melodies with new lyrics, and everything in between. The lyrics are about trolls, nature, feelings, and about the danger of picking apples in the neighbour's garden.
Not so rock n roll, but catchy.

IT WILL LAST: Violence Is Not The Key
Wanikiya Record - Digital Single
"Violence Is Not The Key" is the first official single taken from the new album, "Mankind". I guess the title speak for itself, but this is a protest against all forms of violence (people are obviously not intelligent enough to learn from history and their own mistakes).
Simone Carnaghi is a multi-instrumentalist (bass, guitar, drums) as well as composer and arranger. It seems like Simone began to make the first demos in the early 2000s. The latest project, IT WILL LAST, came to life in the end of 2018. The first album, "Nightmares In Daylight", was released in 2021. "Mankind" is the second album.
What got me interested was that the influences came from 80s legends like IRON MAIDEN, SAVATAGE, JUDAS PRIEST, STRYPER, DOKKEN, RUSH, and many more. But does this song live up to that level? Well, maybe not. But it's at least something similar and a good try. So in the end it's a pretty o.k. song after all.

HEAVY TEMPLE: Garden Of Heathens
Magnetic Eye Records on April 12 - CD, LP, Digital
HEAVY TEMPLE play loud and heavy. It's a psychedelic kind of doom metal that this Philadelphia trio deliver.
This album is said to be more diverse and sophisticated than their full-length debut, "Lupi Amoris" , but without losing punch or heaviness. It's very riff based and powerful. The only things I'm not such a big fan of here, is the psychedelic guitar solo in "Divine Indiscretion", and the psychedelic, instrumental song "In The Garden Of Heathens", which sounds a little Indian.
HEAVY TEMPLE formed on the 2012 winter solstice. A self titled EP was released in 2014, and followed by another EP, "Chassit", in 2016. Their first full-length, the mentioned "Lupi Amoris", was released in 2021.

GREENLEAF: Breathe, Breath Out
Magnetic Eye Records - Digital Single
Swedish heavy rockers GREENLEAF have been active for many years now. This song is a first taste of their next album, "The Head & The Habit", due on June 26. That will be their 9th full-length.
"Breathe, Breath Out" is a heavy riff monster, where the band weaves together psychedelia, 70s hard rock and metallic blues. You can simply call it stoner rock, desert rock or heavy rock, they all fit in. It sounds really good anyway, so you should really give this song a try.
GREEN LEAF was initially formed as an informal project by friends that were already playing in other bands, including names such as DOZER, LOWRIDER and DEMON CLEANER. It was soon clear that everyone wanted the material to be recorded, and a self titled EP was released in 2000, which was followed by their full-length debut, "Revolution Rock", a year later.

BOTTENHAVET: Ljud I Tysta Rum
Fuzzorama Records on April 12 - LP, CD, Digital
If you like Swedish singing hard rock bands like PRINS SVART and ABRAMIS BRAMA, then BOTTENHAVET could be something for you, because this is another fantastic band in the same league, even if BOTTENHAVET have a wider range of influences than those other bands. This Stockholm based band blend 70s hard rock with stoner, fuzz, prog rock and even some grunge. Unbeatable groove and stunning melodies is their winning recipe, and all songs are great.
According to me, this should be the next big thing when it comes to 70s hard rock in Swedish. But let's see if that will happen. You should of course check this out anyway.

MIEHALA: Sons Of Alaheim
Inverse Records - Digital EP
MIEHALA is a thrash metal band from eastern Finland, founded in 2021. They have a modern sound, but the roots are based in the 80s, and they also blend in some death metal and doom. This 5-track EP is the follow-up to their debut album, "Gods Of Death", which was self released in December 2022.
I can hear more of the old school than the new here, but it's absolutely a modern production anyway. But I guess it all depends on what song we talk about here. Most of them are pretty old school though, so fans of thrash from the 80s should absolutely check this out, because this was really good stuff.
The only problem is that these 5 songs are over too soon. But hopefully we don't have to wait too long for a new full-length album.

CAPTAIN HAWK: Ghosts Of The Sea
Symmetric Records - LP, CD, Digital
4 years ago, Greek duo Elina Englezou and Bob Katsionis (ex-FIREWIND, WARRIOR PATH, STRAY GODS, SERIOUS BLACK etc) released "Goditha - The Rock Opera". Now they return with another cinematic and epic power metal adventure about pirates. This time under the moniker CAPTAIN HAWK. It's an entertaining and uplifting album, which is full of pirate metal riffs, guitar solos, cinematic orchestrations, upbeat melodies and big choruses. This is a must for every fan of power metal and pirate metal.
The album features lots of different vocalists from the Greek metal scene, as well as some additional musicians.

UNDER THE SHADOWS: I Before You
Under The Shadows - Digital Album
I didn't get much information about this band, but what I could find ot was that it started as a side project by Elias Negrin (JULIAN'S LULLABY, ex-DISHARMONY, DECADENCE) with Aris Negrin on drums, Eric Castiglia on vocals and Dimitris Koskinas on lead guitars. All lyrics are written by Anna Spanogiorgou, who has contributed lyrics to all JULIAN'S LULLABY albums as well. And this is the first mini album/EP with UNDER THE SHADOWS, which was released in late January.
What they play is heavy metal, with both old and modern elements. They have both good musicians and a good vocalist, as well as very good songs. So this should be of interest for every fan of heavy metal. And I don't really know what else I should say..

VR SEX: Hard Copy
Dais Records - LP, CD, Cassette, Digital
Since the last album, "Rough Dimension" (2022), band leader Noel Skum (DRAB MAJESTY) have transformed VR SEX into a fully collaborative 5-piece band. But what do they really play? Gothic punk? Post-punk? Garage rock? I guess it's all there somehow. Throw in a pinch of psychedelic rock and decadence as well, and you might be close to what this band sounds like. The label call it psychedelic post-punk, and I guess that description works. It sounds alternative and diverse anyway. But it also sounds good, so you should not be afraid of giving this band a try, even if they might be a little hard to describe.

72 LEGIONS: What A God Could Be
72 Legions - CD, Digital
This is the debut album from these death/thrash metallers, who also blend in elements of black metal. The band hailing from Cleveland, Ohio, and formed in 2022. A EP, "72 EP", was released in 2023.
Their music is melodic, yet violent. And the songs vary from mid-tempo to fast, which is good, as there's no risk that you will get too much of the fast or the mid-tempo. Here you get a fair dose of both.
Now I don't have that much to say, but you should really check out 72 LEGIONS, because they are a really good band.

SKIT OF RESISTANCE: Unreleased Noisecore Liverecordings 1999
Skit Of Resistance - CD-R
I can't really say that noisecore is a favorite genre. I don't even want to call it music actually. This band is not totally useless though, as they also blend in some crustcore. I would not say that it sounds great as it's still very noisey, but it's at least not just improvised chaos. Their songs are not just a few seconds, which is very common in this genre, but often a few minutes. But for some reason there seems to be more playing than vocals in some of these songs, which is a little strange. I'm actually not really sure if there's any words at all when he's "singing", because it sounds like he's just screaming or growling.
This was recorded live at Blå Valen in Varberg, Sweden in December 1999, and the sound quality is not the best. If you want something fast and brutal, but don't care too much about music, then I guess this could be your thing.

MIDNITE CITY: Like There's No Tomorrow
Pride & Joy Music - Digital Single
This is the 4th single from MIDNITE CITY's latest album, "In At The Deep End", which was released on June 23, 2023. They do their best to take you back to a hard rock party in the 80s. And this is one of the softer and more melodic songs, but far away from a ballad. It's very catchy and easy to like. Fans of melodic rock should check this out, even if hair metal is what this British band use to play.

LYPSWITCH: Rattlesnake Skin
Eonian Records - Digital Single
LYPSWITCH came originally from Orlando, and categorized their sound as "underground punk-funk street rock". In April 1988 they moved to Hollywood, where they got inspired by the blooming sleaze rock scene.
"Rattlesnake Skin" is the first single from the new album, "World Of Sin", which is out now. And what you can expect is a heavier sleaze rocker in the good old tradition. So if you like the classic 80s bands from Los Angeles, then this could be worth a try.

The LOYAL CHEATERS: Can't Go Out
Go Down Records - Digital Single
This is the first single from the upcoming album, "And All Hell Broke Loose", which will be released on April 26. And what we get is a vital punk rocker with raspy vocals, high octane guitars and a raw energy. It's catchy and damn good, so I want to hear some more with this band.
The LOYAL CHEATERS is an Italian/German action rock band they say. But I think this song is more punk rock anyway.

The GHOST INSIDE: Split
Epitaph Records - Digital Single
This is hard and heavy stuff, as well as aggressive. We talk about metalcore.
The GHOST INSIDE has been around since 2008, and will release their 6th album, "Searching For Solace", on April 19. "Split" is a taste of what you can expect from that album.
Well, this is actually really good for being metalcore, which is a genre that doesn't always impress. So if you want something hard and heavy, then I think you should give this little song a try.

NIGHTBLAZE: Nightblaze
Art Of Melody Music/Burning Minds Music Group - CD, Digital
So now the debut album from this Italian melodic rock/AOR band is finally out then.
The journey started in 2021 as the brainchild of composer/multi-instrumentalist/producer Dario Grillo (PLATENS, VIOLET SUN). He was soon joined by Damiano Libianchi (ex-PERFECT VIEW) on vocals, Alex Grillo (PLATENS, VIOLET SUN, VERDEMELA) on drums and Federica Raschellà (STEEL TYRANT, EVIL EYES) on bass. The goal was to create a solid, up-to-date sound with deep 80s melodic rock influences.
With the first singles they set the bar high with a couple of fantastic singles. So I really looked forward to hear the whole album. And now that I have heard it a few times, I can just say that they have succeeded with their goal at least. Because this is very 80s, but yet with a modern sound. And there's hardly anything wrong with these songs, so you should really check this out.

COVENTHRALL: Legacy Of Morfuidra
Inverse Records - CD, Digital
COVENTHRALL is a Finnish power metal band, formed in 2005 as GRUDGE'S CLAW. A EP, "Vision Weaver", was released a year later. After a short creative break, the band started to work on their debut album, and they also changed the name to COVENTHRALL. The album was recorded and ready for release years ago, but was lost for unknown reasons. It has now been found and was finally released in March 2024.
It's an ambitious space adventure that they presents here, while the music itself should fit fans of legends like BLIND GUARDIAN and GAMMA RAY. The songs are in other words of the epic and powerful kind, and it all sounds very professional and really good. Many of these songs have cinematic/symphonic elements as well. You should really check this out.
