How come you got interested in death metal and decided to form PUTERAEON?
- Well, I was interested in death metal long before I started PUTERAEON. I was in a band called TAETRE from back in 93 and before that a couple of other bands playing death metal. I think I started with this music around 1990/1991. So it's been with me since my early teenage years.
How does the songwriting process work in your band? Are all involved in music and lyrics or is it just 1 person?
- It's mainly me and Rune (guitar/backing vocals) who write. We write at home and present a more or less finished song to the rest of the guys. Then we might do some smaller changes, then I present vocal patterns on the song. Usually the vocals comes last.
You will soon release a new album, "Mountains Of Madness". What can you tell us about that?
- It's our 5th album and it's a concept album around HP Lovecrafts novel "At the mountains of madness". It follows the story through the songs from start to finish, and it's a really good album. We have managed to capture both the atmosphere and the aggression just as we wanted it. Mixed and mastered by Dan Swanö, so it sounds stunning.
There seems to be more death metal bands than ever nowadays. What do you think about today's scene, and do you have any favorite bands that we might not have heard of?
- There are a lot, but at the same time, back in the mid 90s when I got this question there were also a lot of bands. I think that means that people like this genre. Good bands worth checking out is bands like FERAL, CREEPING FLESH and TURBOCHARGED to name a few.
So what will happen after the album release then? Many upcoming gigs?
- I hope we will get to do some at least. There is talk of a smaller tour this autumn. Let's hope!
Many thanks for your support.
